Title: Streetfighter!
Post by: NEIKOS on November 04, 2008, 05:45:28 AM
Isn't that what a Monster is supposed to be about?

So, what the hell is this http://www.streetfighter.ducati.it/main_en.html (http://www.streetfighter.ducati.it/main_en.html)

Too afraid to make this the new Monster and lose their #1 selling bike?

Don't get me wrong.  I think this thing is BEAU-T-ful but still . . . Kinda insulting to Lily and her siblings.  >:(

I like it.   I still like the S4R better, and the 848 better.  ;D

I think that is exactly what the monster should be evolving towards rather than that ugly toy called a 696 (just my opinion) I dig it  [thumbsup]

Agreed.  I don't like the 696/1100 direction.

I'm just irritated that Ducati couldn't just grow some balls and just convert to a new Monster or a new model instead of putzing around  . . .

Is it just me but doesn't the tank look a lil small?  Otherwise, I agree, this is the direction they should've gone rather than the 'false' holes or whatever they are in the 696.  And it looks like the riding position is back to a normal, "non-Motard" riding position, as well...  Looks nice but hate the mirrors...  [evil]  Cara has nothing to worry about... :)

I agree about the mirrors, they would be the first thing to go.

Mirrors... gone.  But those are usually one of the first things to go anyway.

The headlight leaves something to be desired... but in the pics it looks at least somewhat interesting.

Only other thing is that I like the cleaner lines of a de-junked engine.  I'll need to see this one in person... but in pics, the motor looks too cluttered.

Otherwise, looks like a rockin' ride.  [evil]  [moto]

The holes in the 696/1100 tank are functional, they lead to the airbox.

Did you read Spidey's (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=13509.45) write up of his time with the M1100 in Spain at the World Prisident's Meeting?   [thumbsup]

Spidey gives it the  [thumbsup], sez it's made for the twisties. [moto]

I like the 696/1100, I think Ducati did a good job of updating the Monster.

I remember hearing that the Monster was going to be 2V/air cooled only, and that Ducati was coming up with a new model for the naked 4V/1098.

I remember reading the same thing... the new Monster is the new Monster, and they were gonna replace the S4R-series bikes with a naked 1098-based beast, something that was a little more focused naked sportbike.

I still don't like the 696 all that well (and by default, many of the same principles go for the 1100).  Some of the design elements are decidely cheaper, like the open-backed casting they used for the swingarm.  Looks like an enclosed design... but up close, it just looks unfinished.  Ditto for several other cast parts on it, it has the poorly finished look of a Suzuki.  One of the reasons I ride a Ducati is because of the higher-quality fit and finish.

Whaaat? Whatever.

looks at his electrical controlls & the oil leaking from the base of the cylinder.

That street fighter looks like a good track bike.  [thumbsup]

Ducati is like any other company... they want to sell bikes... and I think these may appeal to a more "Mass market" side. They may lose some of their old school peeps... but those guys are just going to keep the monsters that they have. On a plus side... the 2009 sbks still look hot... except they are more spendy than last yeat. 848 went up by over $500

I stand by my statement that my Ducati has a higher quality fit and finish.

I said nothing about reliability.

My SS and the older Suberbikes I've been on all have far better-looking machined parts, better paint, and yes, even the electrical switchgear feels better than a same-year Suzuki, Kawasaki, or Yamaha.  Hondas are comparable in the switchgear but not the machining/casting, and BMW excels in both areas.  YamaKawizukis don't feel like they're finished, the machined parts are that bad.  The new 696 is similar.  Older Ducatis had a smoother finished feel to them.

Again, do not confuse this with electrical reliability.  Two different things.  I'm talking about a subjective feel here.  As for oil leaks... I've known of too many Euro vehicles leaking small amounts of oil to give that much thought.  If your cylinder base gasket is leaking more than a trace... stop complaining about it and replace the d**n gasket already.  If it's leaking lots of oil from anywhere, that's an abnormal failure, and something needs replaced right away.

+1
