Title: How do I get motor oil off of a tire? Post by: Takster on November 05, 2008, 08:36:11 PM I just realized the other day that there were these unexplained splatter marks on the drive-side tread of the rear tire on my 696. At first I thought that it was brake fluid (because what other fluids make it back there?)
Long story short, it looks like when the dealer did the oil change (600 mile maintenance), they didn't install the oil filter properly. There is an extremely slow oil drip coming from the bottom of the oil filter that's splattering back onto the tire. I'm taking the bike back to the dealership on saturday, but I'm assuming they won't clean the oil off the tire for me (at least to my satisfaction) How do I get this crap off? I was thinking dish washing detergent and a stiff plastic-bristled brush Title: Re: How do I get motor oil off of a tire? Post by: Spidey on November 05, 2008, 09:14:07 PM That should work fine.

Title: Re: How do I get motor oil off of a tire? Post by: triangleforge on November 06, 2008, 12:25:03 PM That should work fine. +1 A buddy of mine broke an oil line on his Monster & completely SOAKED his rear tire in oil (I scooted in front of him and pulled everybody over about a half mile before we got up into the twisties, where he would have dropped my butt like a stone. Until about half way through the first turn at least). I was chatting with the mechanic who replaced the line and asked the same question. He said soap and water were fine, smiled and added, "You DO know that tires are made outta oil, doncha?" Title: Re: How do I get motor oil off of a tire? Nylon and steel with some carbon black (http://) for durability. Title: Re: How do I get motor oil off of a tire? Post by: Ducnial on November 06, 2008, 03:35:32 PM Any common degreaser will work
