It would be good to list and I'd be intrested in knowing what models have interchangeable exact parts, engines, wheels and frames.  Perhaps you all can chime in on what matches and what doesn't.

800 ie engine
As an example in 2003 Ducati came out with the M 803 ie fuel injected engine; which was used in 04-03, then they re branded it as the S2R, but still exactally the same engine, (correct me if I'm wrong) and still being used the the S2R 800 engines to date; this engine replaced the carbed 750's.

So it would seem that all S2r and M 800's would have interchangeable engine parts.

Frames
Can someone verify what trellis frames are interchangeable? Is the trellis frame exactally the same from 1996?-2008 on all monsters until the 696 came out? 

What about other models?  st's, classics, 996,848; 695's (is is just the cylinders that are smaller but everthing else is the same?) 

03-04 had the same breaks, but Ducati did change the break system on the S2R's in 05 to slightly smaller rotors on the front, and a different series of Brembo deep blue calipers (or purple)

and in 05 the new thing for the s2r's was the single sided swing arm on the S2R's and the 5 spoke wheels.

Please expand the list of similarities and difference between models; especially the st's and the race bikes.

Sure would be nice but it`s just too much work & quite complicated, especially if SBK & ST`s should be included.

This is where the spare parts lists come in handy. A bit fidgy but works most of the time.

Tisk tisk .... might be a bit of work to organize; a good format would help; but theres allot of know how in the DMFers.  Chime in Ducksters!

03-04 800 ie equivalent to the
05-08 07 S2R

Frame Compatibility

Addressing your particular questions:

AFIAK, 800 motors are all the same, up until '07, where they had 7mm valve stems instead of 8mm.
There may be other differences, I've not done any detailed comparison.

Frames 2001 and earlier are basically the same, excluding the 2001 S4.
2001 S4 and all 2002 and later non-S*R are basically the same.
S*R frames are basically the same.
Each group of frames I've identified above are not necessarily interchangeable, for example a 2002 S4 engine will not fit into a 2002 air-cooled model frame.

Your original request is a gigantic task.

I don't even remember half of what's interchangeable until someone calls us up ... and then I'll remember taking the various bikes apart or a forum thread and then the answer is generally among these: no, yes, should, no effin clue -- can you tell me if you finger it out?

I could write a book answering that question... as with every new model comes another dimension to the matrix of interchanges.

LOL; ok guys; you know more than I  [bow_down]; this might be more complex than I thought (humbled yet again) ... somehow I'd like to keep a running list of interchangeable components; maybe on a broader basis; and as speedog pointed out theres refinement happening all the time; I didn't know about the valves being changed in 07 onward on the 800 series engines ...

And, to show just how monumental a task this list would be - by "basically the same", Speeddog's ignored the different crossmember on the FI bikes compared to the carbed bikes (some '99 900s, all the 00 and 01 900s, and some of the 01 750s - if I recall correctly) - I cant remember if this gets in the way trying to fit carbs to an FI frame, or when you're trying to fit FI thottle bodies to a carby bike frame, they're different though...
