Title: Upgrade question S2R 800
Post by: jarheadtex on November 06, 2008, 12:50:10 PM
I bought my bike  with a Zard, full exhaust system. Is there any way to identify if the prev. owner did a ecu upgrade as well??

AFAIK, there's no ECU that would go with the Zard.  The only aftermarket ECU is the Ducati Performance ECU that comes with the Termis, and I seriously doubt he'd do that for the Zards (I'm not even sure you can get it separately).  Because of the immobilizer and FI system, the Ducs aren't like other bikes where you can routinely switch out the ECU with aftermarket units.  To deal with the Zards, the PO might have added a PCIII or a RapidBike, but that's just an add-on.  You'd say that under the tank or seat or strapped to the frame somewhere.  That said, I don't know how to absolutely confirm that you still have the stock ECU.  Someone around will have a definitive answer for ya.

I'd think that if they did anything, they'd have slapped a PCIII on there. which should be strapped down on your battery if you lift the tank for a look.

yes, I kind of just repeated what spidey said, but whatever. he's so dreamy  :D

most S2R800 came on Rich Side from the factory.
i put some GPR and an open Box and it offset from rich to almost perfect without any ECU or PCIII
test was Done on the Dyno at Ducati Indianapolis.

But keep in mind "That's my bike", yours might be diffrent

Do you experiance any Backfiring? or Stalling?

It doesnt back fire other than popping when I decellerate, but Im pretty sure thats normal. I guess it was more the power commander that I was wondering about. I had an inline four previously and a power commander was nessisary if you pit a full system on. Just courious, thanks for the info.

Oops!  Sorry jarhead.  I didn't know that about the ECU being unique with the Termi's.

My zard system ran pretty good without any change from ecu or PCIII.  I can see where a tune could help though.

I also got some popping on deceleration mostly caused from a leak in the system where the Zards meet up with the stock head tube.  It can be frustrating getting rid of those leaks.

My current system does the same thing, even more.  I just kind of live with it until I can find an easy solution.  In my experience gasket sealers like permex only last so long.  Others though have had a lot better results with it.
