My new gig has me in Asia this week. I finally have a day to get my arms around this jet lag before the real work begins... then again, given the scenery and food/beer, I may never come back. My hotel is in Akasaka, where the imperial palace is. Today I got to play tourist.
I got in around 6pm Saturday (after leaving at 6am Friday!! zzz). Here was my room service "surprise bento box #2"...part of which was still moving.

Ill post up more this week, assuming I have something more interesting than just the inside of a Japanese board room....I hear the social clubs they are taking me to are crazy...but I am not sure cameras are allowed. [roll] [evil]
Nice docudrama DDGM, you even got to mix some toilet humor in the middle! I'll take 2 of whatever is great to eat over there and stuff it with the second best food to eat. Have some fun before working too hard. [thumbsup]
Looks like a great time. You deserve it, buddy! [thumbsup]
that looks like so much fun!!!
dont forget to me any Sailor Moon stuff ;D
and that toliet is something else....wouldnt wana be drunk and barfing in there [laugh]
The toilet <giggles> [whisper] he doesn't know about the three shells [/whisper] heheheheee ;D oh and the food looks devine! yum-yum!
Wow! All I can say is "WannaJobLikeThat!". Too cool. Enjoy! [thumbsup]
Thanks for sharing the great pics..isn't it awesome to experience other cultures first hand while learning what
makes them proud of their heritage [thumbsup]
The crapper looks like it is easier to hit than the ones I experienced in France. Just imagine you are a bomber pilot dropping your load and your accuracy will swiftly improve over time (especially if you get tired of wiping your ankles). ;D ;D
Have fun and enjoy ;)
LOLOLOL... pilot to bombardier, pilot to bombardier...open payload doors. Bombs away!!
So I am off to the great morning rush hour. I am amazed by the number of cars and yet the city is SILENT...so little horn honking (actually, none).
Stories and pictures to follow later tonight (your morning).
Updates from land of tiny people...
So what is a guy with a severe case of jet lag to do at 2am when he is wide awake? Ah yes, play with the high tech toilet.
First, I read the directions:
um ok... well lets look at the buttons (sorry for the IZ quality pic)
I started with the one labeled front....well after my man pears were blown straight up, nearly to my chin, I was hesitant to try the one labeled back. But alas, I was very grateful I did! Nothing quite like a techno-salad-toss followed by a light warm blow dry to make your early morning!
For those thinking I am leading a life of adventure and intrigue... the first pic here will show you the size of my room (yes, the bed is that low). The second picture shows you the exciting board room (full of asian art) that I got to spend 13 hours in today.
But life isnt all bad here. Following the recommendation of my Japanese cohorts, I went to Obrien-sans Japanese Irish bar. For the bacon lovers in group, feast your eyes on 1/4 inch thick, artery clogging chunks of pork pleasure
(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm228/ducducgooseme/Tokyo/CIMG0562.jpg)
Followed by stewed cuddle fish
(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm228/ducducgooseme/Tokyo/CIMG0563.jpg)
You haven't lived until you have savored the chewy, yet crunchy texture of cuddle fish. I liken it to chewing on bubble gum with crunchy candy in the middle. However, the after taste leaves a bit to be desired. I washed it down with a few pints of Guinness and still wanted to cut my own tongue out.
Tomorrow night the guys are taking me by the local Ducati shop followed by a night of sake and karaoke. Pics to follow.
Ahh. DDGM-san. Having fun in the land of the rising sun? I've been in that neck of the woods before. It's all coming back to me, now. Haven't seen a bomb sight commode in quite a while. Try hugging that porcelain alter when you've had too much to drink!!. Enjoy the food. If you're a fish lover, you're in heaven. If not . . . well, it was time for a diet anyway. Maybe a liquid diet will suffice. ;D You might be hard pressed to find Ducatis there. Enjoy.
Arigato gozai sashi-mas! I'm overcome with envy.

That's no reason to talk with your mouth full! ;D
Hey Hooligans! Greetings from the far East again.
Took a few pics over the last coupla days for ya. I got to get hammered with the owner of the local BMW Guzzi shop here. One make the beast with two backsing cool cat! I came in and he was about to shut down the shop to celebrate their anniversary. He walks up with a bottle of sake and invites me to stay. What is a guy to do.
These are for my dear Dusty.... you know you still wanna:

This is my room, stocked with beer and the now famous techno toilet. A man can get used to the warm seat and prostate wash. The view faces Shinjuku section of Tokyo. I am in Akasaka, the business district that has all of the national embassies (they frown on photos of the USA one...ask me how I know), as well as the emperor's palace, gardens and the Prime Minister's house (dudes guarding it with some tactical shit straight out of a movie)

Oh one more...this is what happens when you venture down an alley, into a restaurant with no Engrish,... spicy hog testicle soup. No, I kid you not. It took 20 minutes of Pictionary Asian style for me to get that out of him. Truth be told, they were make the beast with two backsing fantastic. Only downside was the burping of ball sack all that night, and I wont begin to describe the next morning's unpleasantness (thank god for the fan and carbon system in my techno toilet...did I mention I must own one of those?!)

Yo man, what up! Seems like Bonfy and I are the only ones up to appreciate your photomontage. Thanks for the shout-out! I definitely recognize the monkey man, a not-so-distant relative. Are there any alpaca over there?
Yea, DDGM!!! That was fun! [clap] [clap] [clap] More? ;D
and yes, you know I still wanna :)
Way cool, man. I spent a year in South Korea, and I can tell you that you got a better deal than me. Look forward to seeing mroe and hearing about it when you get back.
I thought this was a "business" trip. Looks like you have plenty of free time. Nice pics, especially the "COWGIRLS". SSSSpankin!!! [bacon] Sure would like to ride them . . . er . . . a . . . give them a ride on the Roadrunner (OOPS. A slip of the keyboard). ;) Were they locals or imports. And don't tell me you didn't check it out. I would be VERY disappointed.

This is my version of Japanees ebonics. This probably looks normal to ducmouse. (http://smileydatabase.com/s/754.gif)
Maybe I will show my Japanese cohorts here the Ducmouse nipple dance and try to explain to them what "spankin" means. That should take all afternoon me thinks.
Wow. I'm afraid to ask what the nippledance is. Is it like the riverdance?
I hate being the new guy. No f*ing idea what the hell is going on...... [bang]

Because I am very special guest john-san upgrade to speciar room. This shower is either a wet dream come true, or will land me in the ER....WTF is the "Wand" for?????!!!

So funny story here.... was in the mood for some beer so I started wandering around the gazillion allies around here. Found this bar that specializes in German (Zasterland!!) and Belgium beer. The bartender, named Zu likes to ski and wants to be a rock star. He spent last winter working at Copper Mountain. He kept force feeding me ( [roll] [evil]) his favorite beers. Tokyo is the most expensive place I have ever been. Beer starts at $15 a pint. My tab for 7 pints and a curry dinner..... $5. Zu is a make the beast with two backsing rockstar to me!

So tomorrow I am finally taking a day off. I am not sure what is planned, but they are taking me to "naughty dinner". I am a bit scared. They tend to think that we Americans like to eat raw fish from the perfectly waxed ass of a stunning 20 year old Japanese woman. Sickos. 8)

I'm glad to see you are the adventurous type, but without pictures ...as they say on the DMF...it never happened. (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/zaster99/laugh1.gif)
So how did they get this idea [evil]? lol Did someone maybe drink too much saki and drop a hint ot two on something they would like to check out? [laugh] [evil]
I realize I have been neglected my thousands of faithful readers who rush to their computers every morning for the update from the land of the rising sun ( [roll] ;D)
Japan is a land of hosting. It would be an insult if I didnt let them show me some of Tokyo (again and again).
Sunday morning, my Japanese compadre Yukio and I went to an older part of Tokyo to visit some shrines and ask for the blessing of our new company.
Can you find the white guy in this pic?
The shrine is 500 years old, and is dedicated to shoes. yes, shoes. People travel from all over Japan to go and get blessed. Yukio tells me that since the economic crashing of Tokyo's finance district, it has been a very popular place. It certainly is beautiful
(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm228/ducducgooseme/Tokyo%20Too/CIMG0741.jpg)
Three foot sandal given to the emperor as a gift (Is that like getting a polyester tie or what?!)
So you put a coin into the metal box, shake out a stick that corresponds to the numbered drawers and that is your fortune. Yukio's was 'neutral', fairly good. When he read mine it was pretty much "your nuts will fall off as the cancer eats your tongue and your dog dies". He made me burn it. My luck.
To prove I do actually work...here is my friend Hiroshi-san (the only fat Japanese guy I saw). This little whiteboard discussion would take two Americans 45 minutes to work out. Take one American who can barely ask for directions to the pisser and one Japanese guy who knows enough Engrish to get slapped when complimenting a pretty woman, and you get an 8 hour discussion about Web Services and single sign-on security

We went to lunch at Yukio's favorite sushi bar. They have 122 kinds of fish. No shit. By far, the best sushi I will ever experience.

On the way back, we passed some stores. Wanna see the worlds most expensive Sony TV? $56,000US.
So I asked Yukio why there arent many women in Kimono dresses. Here is why. This is one piece fabric (of 4 needed). Cost is $2940 US for the one piece....Then after you buy the other 3, you pay $5k to have it made(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm228/ducducgooseme/Tokyo%20Too/CIMG0773.jpg)
Some things are cheap....remember the ole tone loc (sp) song? "It takes $50 dollah to make you hollah"? This is for happy ending massage. No, I did not.

WOW, Great pics John-san. The old "portable" shrine is beautiful. i'm going to try to find more pics of it. As for the 56k Sony... CROOKS ! Either that, or Panasonic is Japanese for Sony. [laugh]
Keep em' comin'. [popcorn] As you can see, there isn't much action going on on the other side of the planet.

Amazing pictures, DDGM. You must look like the reverse of the Japanese tourists who come over here with their cameras. You could be the Ugly American (if you weren't so handsome, of course)! [laugh]
I learned alot about the kimono when I read "Memoirs of a Geisha". They aren't real easy to get in and out of, you need a personal attendant, needless to say. And they weigh a ton and there are several layers of undergarments, as well. And what else....oh, a Geisha house is judged by the collection of kimono and is considered their main treasure. It was fascinating.
