Title: Need help with grip swap and speaking of grips... Post by: 1313 on November 11, 2008, 11:04:19 AM I can figure out the clutch side but how about the throttle side? I managed to undo the throttle cable so the grip and "tube" aren't under tension of the cable. Do I just pry something between the factory grip and throttle tube and separate them? I just don't want to mess anything up especially when it comes to controls.
Thanks Title: Re: Need help with grip swap Post by: teddy037.2 on November 11, 2008, 11:11:53 AM they basically swap the same... lil'bit of rubbing alcohol will loosen the grip and it should slide right off. just find something you can lift the grip away w/ and spray... like a scribe, or a pick, etc.
Title: Re: Need help with grip swap Post by: minnesotamonster on November 11, 2008, 11:41:04 AM Compressed air. Slide the nozzle under the grip and shoot the air inside. The grip will balloon up and just pull it right off. No need to take anything apart.

Title: Re: Need help with grip swap Post by: Jaman on November 11, 2008, 12:38:03 PM Long screwdriver, get it between grip & throttle tube, go all the way round the tube with the screwdriver in between, working grip off as you go...
Title: Re: Need help with grip swap Post by: Takster on November 11, 2008, 01:03:34 PM I just did mine the other night... pryed it up a bit with a screwdriver, sprayed in some hair spray (perfect lubricant/adhesive) worked it around to the rest of the grip, then it slid right off. I gave the new grips a spritz on the inside to slide back on. Easy as pie.

Title: Re: Need help with grip swap and speaking of grips... Post by: 1313 on November 11, 2008, 03:32:41 PM Thanks again for the help. I just threw on some free-to-me Driven gel grips. While they are soft, the throttle side doesn't completely cover the flared end of the tube. What grips are on the market that cover it up? I like the feel of the Driven gel grips but hate how it looks.

Post by: 1313 on November 11, 2008, 09:36:25 PM I ended up ordering these.. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/68/4489/ITEM/Pro-Grip-699-Open-End-Sportbike-Gel-Grip.aspx
I'll let you know how they work out when I get them on Tuesday. 8) Title: Re: Need help with grip swap and speaking of grips... Post by: dropstharockalot on June 07, 2009, 06:21:48 PM Holy dead thread resurrection, Batman!
The advice in this thread was spot on as far as stripping and mounting... the only downside is getting my Napolean bar-ends lined back up. Royal PITA until I retrieve the one washer that scooted off under the water heater during removal, but not in any way related to what the DMF'ers shared about grip fixing. I'm trying out Ariete grips on the recommendation of a local long-haul sport-tourer type. I didn't get to take a spin with them attached 'cuz yard work got in the way, so I'l post pics and a review soon. Title: Re: Need help with grip swap and speaking of grips... It gets super close though. What I ended up doing a while back was painting the throttle tube black to mask it as much as I could.
