I'm going to go watch it.
Not sure if it'll be as good as Casino Royal, but I'm a bond junkie.

The Bond movies that typically do best are even numbered movies, so as this is an odd numbered one, the shortest run time of any Bond movie, and has a questionable title that doesn't connect well to the movie (even Craig was baffled at the title), I'm not suprised.
of course i will go see it. the only thing that ever changes in 007 movies are the guy playing bond, the leading lady, and the name of the movie.
sure plot specifics are often new/different, but not enough to really matter

Ungh. Movie reviews. Movie critics range right up there with pickles ( I HATE pickles) and opening up a perfectly good post only to see a "giant wang".
Titanic got great reviews, but don't get me started on that.

That being said, it's definitely on the list. I'm a sucker for spy movies of ANY kind.
It's not even 2 hours? I liked 'Casino Royale' and hope this is as good.
Going at midnight tomorrow night... A friend's birthday tradition...
I have to say Daniel Craig is a much better Bond than Timothy Dalton, and probably better than Pierce Brosnan.
By no means even close to being a Sean Connery.
Has he learned how to drive a stick yet?
It is a much different world now than the '60's, and Bond movies have changed, as well.
Just saw Casino Royale, in preparation for seeing Quantum.
Interesting movie.
Could've done without the whole 'chair' scene :-X , but otherwise entertaining.

I think he is excellent, and that as good as Connery was, nowadays noone will ever be considered as good because of the legacy.
The "he can't drive a stick" was a bit of a nasty rumor that has been disproven.

Quantum
1. quantity or amount: the least quantum of evidence.
2. a particular amount.
3. a share or portion.
I'm starting to like the title since it may increase someone's vocabulary. [laugh]
Bond is like Star Wars. It may suck sometimes, but they're still fun to watch. Repeatedly. I dont think there is a single Bond I havnt seen multilple times. Even the gawdawful contractual obligation remake of Thunderball that Connery did in the 80's, Never Say Never, Again.
I think the worse part about the Pierce Bonds were they got too PC - like rated PG or PG13. Bond movies should have good sex and violence. I also think that Craig does a good job as a "believable" agent.
mitt
Pierce makes a good rich anti-hero (he was great in the remake of Thomas Crown Affair).
Bond movies are escapism at it's best. screw reality...I want to get out of my job etc. for a few hours.
I welcome any new 007 movie.
(yes...I own all of them on DVD).
I'm going to get flamed I know, but I actually liked Timothy Dalton more than Pierce Brosnan. Connery will always be the man, but I do like Craig as Bond.

Well, he doesn't have sex with the Bond girl in this movie.
I don't know whether to be happy or sad about that, because I always picture myself with a Bond girl. [evil]

I'll probably see it also despite what I've read so far.
For a good dose of Daniel Craig before he was Bond, check out Layer Cake. I'm convinced he was chosen as Bond because of this great movie.
I really enjoyed it.
It seemed to have a little more of a feel of the older movies.
In addition to lacking relations with the Bond girl, there is no Q Section. :(

I considered that s well, but it looks like the announcement was made before the movie was released. Still could be though, those hollywood folk are tricky.
For this gal, as long as I see Daniel Craig on the screen, I don't even realize what the hell else is going on in the movie. Who cares, doesn't matter...i'm there for the beefcake. ;D

+1. I'll go see any movie with Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman...I usually don't absorb most of the plot the first viewing.
I'm going to see it in about an hour & 1/2. Just enough time for a good "Kilt lifter" [drink] & a Pizza Pie before the show. [thumbsup]

Quantum of Solace wasn't bad (just back from watching it).
The title, BTW, is from a short story that would make a horrible movie. They're running out of Fleming titles to use. I mean, can you imagine watching "The Hildebrand Rarity" or "The Property of a Lady?" (Yes, I realize the material from that story did appear in a movie of a different name.)
QofS really doesn't hold a candle to Casino Royale, though. In my opinion as a Bond fan for decades, it's the film that is most like a Fleming book. It doesn't slavishly follow the plot of the novel, but the basics are all there, including the physical agony and the moral ambiguity.

Funny Brit way of saying
a small measure of peace

Given that revenge is hollow and ultimately unfulfilling
I just came home from seeing it.
I liked it 8)
I like Casino Royale more, but It's still better than any of the last few before Craig took over
anyone think this one seemed a little OVER dramatic in some places? I did. It wasn't the same director as last time though, so I'm pretty sure that is why

Olga Kurylenko is by far my favorite Bond girl now. She is so Bello ;D

I really didnt care for the way the action scenes were shot. Seemed to Bourne Like.
"The Producers have forgotten what makes Bond unique. Bond is supposed to be fun, over the top escapism. Not gritty and real. We want to be Bond, not have Bond be us. Solace is one relentlessly dour, emotionless movie."
where were the cool cars? the gadgets? the style? the charisma?? the whole movie was a ford commercial, bond drives fords now??

oh yea? I always noticed bmw's and aston martins, aston was owned by a division of ford for a hot minute but not anymore its privately owned.
bond always rocked hot cars hot women hot watches.. gadgets etc etc, this was not a bond movie rather part 2 of arnolds commando

the product placement is getting terrible. I'm curious what happens now that Aston Martin and Land Rover aren't owned by Ford. The AM has been a bond car since the beginning....will he be in a ford GT for the next movie?
I think the SonyEricson was worse though....EVERY SINGLE PHONE....and Sony Vaio Computers. that was the last movie too.
At least with cars, you also saw the Alfas at the beginning and the old school bug halfway through

maybe I just notice it more in the last 4-5 years than I did before?
We went and saw it on Friday. My impression was that it was not as great as I had hoped that it would be.
Problem #1) Not a well established story: really, when I go to the movies, I'm looking forward to seeing a good story to accompany the action. The action was great, but there was too much of it and a total lack of story to support it.
Problem #2) Oil Death Scene: This was by far the most skilled element in the movie. Why? For anyone who has an affinity or education in literature, this is an awesome moment in what's called "intertextuality" - the moment when a reference is made that links litterary elements together from two different works without making an overt reference to one or the other. This was the most awesome part of the movie, and it was given a whole 2 seconds of screen time, and the role (echoing of Pussy Galore) was given to a supporting role character with no contribution to the story (or lack there of).
Problem #3) The action: As I watched the movie I couldn't help but notice that the action covered every aspect of moving vehicular action - meaning there was a car chase, a boat chase, a motorcycle chase, an airplane chase, horses, ect.... I mean...seriously as a director you should pick one or two and make them great and avoid them being just regurgitations (very different meaning from intertextuality) of previous movies (ie. the plane chase).
Cold hard butt-kicking movies aren't James Bond movies. Bond movies are slick, refines, cool, methodical, ect....
Oh, and pay close attention to Craigs "battle wounds" because one day he's falling through glass windows getting all cut up on his face, and the next morning/day scene, his cuts are amazingly gone!!!!
On a scale of 1-10.....I give it a 7.0
Just saw it. I liked it, but it was lacking in a couple areas. I agree, the oil murder scene should have been expanded, and the english consulate girl should have had a bigger role, or none at all.
More diverse cars would have been nice too. I wonder how many Ford Edges are really in Bolivia?
