Title: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. Advice/opinions Post by: NuTTs on November 12, 2008, 02:42:13 PM Hi gang,
I´m in the middle of turning the 749 into something lighter, faster and well.. not a 749. Project is still top secret but, I´ve run into a slight problem. When we took the bike apart I duly found that biposto subframe weighs a hell of a lot. Also, the silencer from my 54mm Termignoni exhaust weighs an absolute ton!! I thought this was a lightweight performance exhaust! Basically I want a can that will slip onto the header pipe and weigh as little as possible. The bike is purely for race and track days, no noise limits here in Spain (yet) but i don´t want to go over 103-104dB. The header outlet is a single 57mm pipe that connects onto the silencer. Any suggestions? NuTTs Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. Advice/opinions Post by: Monstermash on November 12, 2008, 09:37:31 PM Suggestions?
Sure, I have a suggestion. Just do what I did and make a custom exhaust for it! ;D (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff176/MonstermashS2R/Custom%20Exhaust%20stuff/999ExhaustMod2.jpg) Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. F04 seat, corse subframe, seat pan, seat pan bracket, and the unobtanium corse exhaust to go with it. Don't forget you'll need a 104mm motor, lots of headwork, special rearsets and grind the engine casings to fit it. That and about 5K if you find all the parts used. Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. Advice/opinions Post by: NuTTs on November 16, 2008, 01:44:15 PM Thanks for the replies folks.. i had a closer look at that end can.. the Y piece isn´t welded in, it´s just covered in shit and looks like it. I carefully wangled it out so now I´m looking for 2 x 50mm round or oval cans.. or a very lightweight square unit.. I´ll take a look at the Zard, Spark and Quat D stuff after I´ve exhausted the round/oval route.
I´m going for this: (http://www.radicalducati.com/uploads/images/Rad/RAD01/RAD-01.jpg) but I am doing so with a SSS... (http://www.radicalducati.com/uploads/images/Rad/RAD02/endurance/19.jpg) Maybe.. just maybe I´ll go this route.. (http://www.radicalducati.com/uploads/images/Rad/rad02%20montjuich/14%20(3).jpg) This hobby is fukin expensive [evil] Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. Advice/opinions Post by: TAftonomos on November 16, 2008, 02:13:54 PM LeoVince 7171 race system in Ti is about the lightest you can get for reasonable money $3200 ish. Works well on 749r's, or 999s (or 05+ 999's), and the 104mm 999r as well.

It's a 2V air cooled motor with a radiator. WTF? Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. That's no radiator...................it's a giant oil cooler...... that bike must be making some serious power & with power comes heat [thumbsup] Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. Me likey [thumbsup] Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. In Spain a lot of the desmodue track bikes run ST2 engines. They are tough and reliable. Also a used ST2 costs peanuts to buy.Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter. Advice/opinions Post by: NuTTs on November 17, 2008, 12:39:02 AM Is that bike #22 above an SBK with an S2R/S4R SSS ??? Yep, spot on. The frame is a 999 style custom built unit that weighs in 30% less than a 999 frame, the SSS is a S2R unit. Motor is a ST3 engine kicking out a real 105hp. This bike weighs in wet at around 155-160kg. With all the CF bits and pieces on the bike it is a real flyer.Me likey [thumbsup] I´m hoping to have my Fränken-bike weigh in around 175kg wet if I calculated correctly. The toughest (read most expensive) part is going to be the wheels and the front forks. I´ve got a love for the Showa units that came with my 749 so ideally I´d like to use the same forks or maybe upgrade to some TiN coated GSXR units with radial mounted calipers. Spark produce the silencer , we produce the carbon cover ... so together it looks like on the picture ( its a normal 999 ) The bike on the video are the same 999 but a sbk seat we only use to understand the shape ;D Bye Chris Title: Re: 749/999 Silencer.. need something lighter.
