Title: odd mod question - clip ons Post by: angler on November 14, 2008, 02:05:35 PM I got a steal on a set of cycle cat clip-ons from a Multi-strada thinking they would work for my S2R monster. Well my forks are 50mm and the Multi's are 53mm. Does anyone know if I could find a shim/bushing to make them work? I was wondering if the same shim that is used to fit GSXR forks on a monster would work, but those are for the lower triple clamp where the fork is thicker anyway. I really like them because of the cycle cat adjustability and the 2.5" rise, but if they cost me much more to make work, I'll ebay them and get some that fit.
I'm thinking of having a machine shop fab some shims, but I am worried that it would cost more than it is worth. Someone on this board recommended eMachineShop, so I used their proprietary CAD system to draw something up and it came out to over $200 for two. Any thoughts? Title: Re: odd mod question - clip ons Post by: angler on November 14, 2008, 03:54:27 PM It is a 3mm difference in diameter, so it would have to be 1.5mm of beer cans. That is several layers, which seems like it would be a problem. That gives me an idea - I could just get some 0.05" 6061-T6 (1.27mm) but that might not be enough. The next size up online is 0.065" which is 1.65mm which seems like a bit much.
Great idea! Title: Re: odd mod question - clip ons Post by: angler on November 14, 2008, 04:11:27 PM It is a 3mm difference in diameter, so it would have to be 1.5mm of beer cans. All I have to say is DUHHHH ;D I just got a couple of pieces cut to fit at the 0.05" and the 0.065" thickness plus enough to make a license plate bracket for $11 at OnlineMetals.com. What a great resource you guys are! Title: Re: odd mod question - clip ons Post by: Buckethead on November 14, 2008, 06:19:12 PM What a great resource you guys are! Glad we could, uh, help you out.
