Title: Squeaky Clutch
Post by: GLantern on November 18, 2008, 09:16:19 AM
When pulling in and releasing my clutch lever on the 1098 its making a squeaking sound, this is with the bike off.  It has an aftermarket dp clutch plate and open cover.  I thought it was the rusted stock springs so i changed them to stainless steel ones from speedymoto but no go.  I did this all tonight by the way without a hiccup.  When the bike moves from a stop it sometimes squeaks too but it doesn't feel like its slipping or anything and when moving or shifting at speed there is no noticeable sound.

It squeaks each time you pull the lever - right?  It's probably just the springs rubbing on the pressure plate.  If you're really curious, have the pressure plate off and take a look inside the spring wells - I'd wager you'll see signs of rubbing.  My 900s clutch will squeak when I pull the lever and the engines off due to the reason I just mentioned.

Now for the sound you get when taking off from a stop - is it a squeak? or more like a high pitched whine?

Just a squeak like the sound when the bike is off, it sounds the same so i figured its the same thing.

All you changed was the pressure plate and springs? I'd vote for the springs rubbing against the plate or the caps. Like Yuu, my m900 clutch squeaks w/ the bike off. When it's on there's too much other noise for me to hear the squeak. Must be a loud squeak if you can hear it while you're taking off.

Ok so i double checked the torque specs today and they needed a little bit more tightening, now the squeak is gone.   [beer]
