Title: VHT painting engine
Post by: Chchadder on November 18, 2008, 05:50:52 PM
Has anyone other than Paradisecity VHT painted their engine?  I had the head replacement done on the 695 because of Ducati's crappy paint, but they only replace the heads as a function of possible damage to the engine, not for cosmetics.  So now I have half a clean engine and half an uncleanable engine.  Paradisecity's looked pretty sweet after it was all said and done.  Post up pics if you have.   [thumbsup]

Used VHT in my car engine builds for a while now.  I found more people swear by it then at it.  Has yet to let me down.

i used VHT on my clutch and stator side covers.  Cleaned them to bare metal, sprayed many fine coats, and then baked them. The paint hold up well to gas and oil spillage, but i am noticing it seems to chip from normal use....riding in traffic, little stone chips. But for the cost and ease i can touch them up.

It's the VHT high temp engine paint.  Magnus' engine cases were affected badly by the crappy 2001 & up Ducati factory engine paint so they had to be cleaned, stripped, etching-primered (the green stuff in the pics), and then 4 coats of the VHT paint went on there.

So far, it's all I've used as far as engine paint goes and it does hold up well!  If your factory Ducati paint isn't all flaky/pealing then (IME) you can scuff it, and then VHT over it.  The M1000SS engine was flaking a bit, so I cleaned off the parts where the flaking was, scuffed up the rest and then VHT'd it.  So far, it's holding up well.

The VHT is the ONLY engine paint I use (FWIW).  [thumbsup]

^^^^^^

what he said!

and it's holding up very well, that was over two years ago and it looks great, no peeling, flaking, cracking, etc.

he man - cool!  i have it as my desktop wallpaper on my work pc.   i typically sit there and stare at it for at least an hour per day   ;D
