I've got one on my bike and the titanium inserts have spun in the holes and prematurely flogged out the plates and they are starting to eat into the basket.
BUT.. the reason they may have done it is because when I bought it it was anodized red, I got it on ebay when they were a bit cheaper and didn't get a choice.
Anyhow. I ask the guy who does the anodizing and he said he could strip the red and re-anodize it gold (see avatar) and I would lose about .02mm (about .001") on size and I went with it thinking that would probably be ok.
Well, when I picked it up he told me that he had stuffed it up!  The gold was kinda blotchy and I dont know how much I lost in size as I didn't measure before and after, but the insterts felt looser that .001"  I used 680 loctite (the strong stuff) when refitting them, but they've still rattled loose and spun.

What I want to know is...   Has anyone else tried these baskets?  if so, whats your impression? are they still tight? how mant miles/ k's you got on em?
I'd like to get another because I like the look and the concept (they are now using spring steel, not titanium) but get a gold one (or maybe just go the barnett)

I don't have an MPL clutch, but I'm having trouble following your description.

Below is a pic of the Ti MPL basket.  Are those the Ti inserts you refer to, where the friction plate tabs contact the basket?  Or instead are you referring to the cylindrical Ti posts on the hub unit??

yep, they're the ones..
the insert are actually round with a flat on the side where the friction plate contacts it, so you can imagine whats happnin when they spin!    :(

Not really.  I'm having trouble figuring out how that Titanium ring that is bolted to the fingers on the clutch basket can spin at all. ?!?

the ring is not Ti...  its ally, and designed to stop the "fingers" expanding as well as hold the Ti pins in. the pins (the shiny things running the length of the groove) are whats rotating.
But all that is dosn't help if you dont have one, as what I'm trying to find out is how other people are finding them so as I know if its worth buying another.

Looks like not too many folks here have experience with that product.  Board sponsor Matrix Motorsports carries the MPL stuff, so maybe check with them?  If MPL changed over from Ti pins to spring steel (shown in pic) perhaps they were having issues with the original Ti design?  If it were me I'd be inclined to run a basic aluminium basket and aluminum clutch plates - keep things simple.

I bought an MPL clutch on ebay and the parts came loose inside the tough plastic box they use on its trip from Germany.  The clear plastic box inside was shattered and everything including the pressure plate rattled around and gouged each other up so I never have installed it  :(   The tough box is perfect though lol.

I see now.  I thought it was only 2 pieces, I now see the silver bits/fingers that extend down.  But knowing how the clutch works, I don't see why you would put a round back side on them, which would only encourage them to pivot.  Good idea, just need some way to secure the inserts!

They bore the holes for the pins, then cut the slots for the frictions.
They make the pins from round stock, cutting flats on them.
It's all to make it practical to machine.

yeah, I'm a machinist and I thought it was really well made stuff(I bought a pressure plate as well)...
I liked the option of having anodized parts for my clutch because of the holes I bored in the inner cover. Normal ally clutch baskets are hard anodized and from what I know hard anodizing dosn't come in decorative finishes. (tho, some say they do?)
I reckon what I/the anodizer did certainly didn't help, so I'm prepared to give em another go because I thought they were so well made. But I just wanted to be sure that no-one else has had the same dramas as me with a basket that hasn't been stuffef with like mine...   [thumbsup]
