Just wanted to post up, I just insured my monster with Foremost insurance. I called them mainly because they sponsor Larry Pegram on The Ducati 848. Well not only were the very pleasant on the phone they were $60 dollars cheaper than my current insurance (State farm) and 70+ dollars cheaper than Geico and Progressive. Don't know if they will be cheaper for everyone else but for me it was a deal!

They were giving me great quotes as well. They actually have a special deal with DNA to give us cheaper rates on our ducs.
For some reason, though, progressive still gave me a better rate.
I personally think that insurance rates are totally arbitrary numbers picked out of a top hat.
Glad you got a good deal, but I kinda agree with corey. I have an '08 Impala, '02 Dakota 4x4 w/ V8 with full coverage, '97 Taurus, '99 M750 with liability + un/under-insured motorist coverage for less a month than my fiancée was paying for full on her '04 Malibu 4cyl.
Maybe an insurance person can verify this as well: It seems credit ratings also influence insurance rates ~

they wanted $400 more than my current insurer...

I paid less than $400 at foremost last year for a S4R full coverage, the works, the whole enchilada, the complete ball of wax. The Harleys are all insured cheaper with another company. For some reason Foremost was considerably cheaper for the Monster than my usual company, but more expensive for the cruisers..... go figure. I did call the S4R a commuter.
It seems that insurance is whimsical in its pricing.

I pay $40 a month with them for full coverage on my S2R1000....
So I got a note in the mail a couple weeks ago that my registration was about to be suspended because I don't have insurance. It turns out that my insurance company, McGraw/Pacific something, put a wrong letter in my VIN on my insurance policy, so the DMV couldn't match up my insurance with my registration. I called my insurance and the rep said she would change it and submit it to DMV. Cool that was easy, or at least I thought. I got a letter the other day saying my registration was suspended and I had to pay $15 and provide proof of insurance to reregister my bike. So I call up the insurance company today and they tell me they see I called but they didn't correct it. Well I take that as a sign and decided to look for new insurance.
I searched insurance on the DMF and saw people saying State Farm and Foremost are pretty good. I called the local Foremost and State Farm insurance brokers. I was paying $880 per year through my current insurance company. Kinda odd, but the Foremost broker gave me a progressive quote for $689. Now that is a bit weird because the online quote I got from progressive was over $2000 a year. State Farm quoted me $649 with cheaper deductibles than the other two. So I went with them. I guess that will cover the price of the helmet I just bought.

Funny how much the quotes can vary on the same bike. I called several companies when I was considering getting an s4r and the rates were all over the map.
GEICO ended up being the cheapest for me - all my cars are with em.
They considered the S4R and RS a cruiser. Go figure. $450 for everything. And they said it would be cheaper still, if I could pass my MC drivers test. But, I can't.

A lot of insurance companies base a big portion of your rate on your credit rating. Not like they did it in the old days where it was based on just your vehicle and driving record. Not sure if Foremost does or not, they are an Allstate subsidiary, iirc. I got the best rate with Foremost as well. Been pretty pleased with them so far. They were really nice on the phone and they insure up to $3k in upgrades as well as riding gear. I can't remember the exact numbers, but that sounds right off the top of my head.
My bikes are insured with GEICO, for $1400 per year ($1k for the Monster and $400 for the Aprilia RST). I'm 48, and have a perfect driving record.
I called Foremost about a year ago when I first heard about the "Special" rates for Ducati owners. They quoted me $3000, so i stayed with GEICO (special rates my a$$). I called Foremost again today after seeing this thread, they gave me the same quote. :( I told the agent that I know people with the same bike in a similar situation that are paying a fraction of that. She broke down the charges, turns out that full coverage for the Monster is only $460 per year, the coverage on the RST is almost $2600 per year :o
I explained that the RST is a touring bike and its only worth $4500, something must be wrong. They are looking into why the rate for the RST is so high. I'm going to switch the Monster to Foremost, and keep the RST insured with GEICO (unless Foremost can match their rate).
BTW, in CA your insurance rate is not based on your credit rating (per the Foremost agent). I was hoping it would be, as this could only help me.
Edited to add: The Foremost policy covers up to $4500 in aftermarket upgrades and riding gear, my GEICO policy only allowed up to $500....
Has anyone had to file a claim with Foremost? I know that besides price one thing that you might want to pay a little extra for is to have a company that isn't going to screw you when you have to file a claim. One of the reasons I have State Farm for the cars, it is a little more money, but I know my agent personally and can go punch 'em in the jaw if they screw with me.
Foremost tried to quote me (and I am not making this up) $3500 per year for my S2R!!!!!! StateFarm quoted me $360 per year, full boat. I have a perfect driving record and perfect credit. [roll] I definitley think that they just pick numbers out of a hat. Guess who I went with???
My local Foremost agent gave me the best rate as well but it was really watered down. I went with State Farm for a bit more per month and a piece of mind.
If I'm not mistaken I think Foremost is part of Farmers.

I can beat that. First time I tried to get a quote they said $13,000+ a year! Second time around I gave a little less info figuring they categorized it wrong and they said $1100. That one is reasonable seeing as I am 23.
