Title: Ducati short tail kit Post by: duclvr on December 02, 2008, 10:49:10 AM I tried to search this with no luck. I know the Ducati short tail kit is outrageously expensive, but does
anyone have it installed that they can post a pic. I want to see how it looks in respect to the werkes. Thanks. Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: be350ka on December 02, 2008, 11:00:54 AM My bike is getting one put on as we speak. I will shoot you a couple pics as soon as I get it back.
There are a few guys on here that got the DP kit. Here is a pic I found of one. http://www.lotustalk.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=2997&c=2 (http://www.lotustalk.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=2997&c=2) Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: duclvr on December 02, 2008, 11:10:12 AM My bike is getting one put on as we speak. Thanks! Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: hydra on December 02, 2008, 12:15:45 PM i installed mine about 3 mos ago. looks great with my high mounted exhaust. a tail chop would have made it look a bit too short with my exhaust. installation was fairly easy. i had to put a couple washers on the bolts connecting the tail light as the seat post wouldn't clear. other than that...simple.
here's some pix for ya...she's a bit dirty but you can see how good the tail looks. Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: hydra on December 02, 2008, 03:30:30 PM its a Ducati Performance CF short tail.
Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: Raux on December 03, 2008, 04:43:06 AM Look for the RG Racing one as well. nice construction, and i think better looking than the DP and CW tails. plus i have to say that since i'm using it.

[cheeky] had to make me go search for pics of my bike didn't ya. Hence the reason why I wanted pics! [cheeky] Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: z0mb1e_DUC on December 04, 2008, 10:53:47 AM I've been looking at that same tail chop kit. How hard was it to install? Do you have to relocate the seat lock like the DP kit? I like the plate position relative to the tail light better than the Werks kit. The DP kit is nice but I want the plate more tucked in. Besides, the R&G one costs less...

Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: ArabicaMan on December 04, 2008, 05:05:45 PM Simple question: What are you guys using for frame plugs with these kits? Do the kits (especially the DP kit) come with plugs for the frame holes? Thanks.

I cant speak for the s2r/s4rs, but there are no plugs needed for the 696 since it is not a trellis frame in the back of the bike. I asked a while back here http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10587.0 and that question was a part of my preparation towards this http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=15393.0 Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: warhummer on December 05, 2008, 07:36:55 AM There are other options for the DP short tail. It's currently $190ish from Carbon World (in Germany). Shipping is 10 Euro. I got mine from there over a year ago and it looks great. Hardware and installation is the same as the DP part to my knowledge. The only SNAFU is that your stock tail light will be moved slightly forward in relation to the stock setup. Not a problem with the stock seat, however if you have a Sargent seat like I do, you have to Dremel out a small portion of the plastic housing to allow room for the hooks underneath the seat.
Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: duclvr on December 09, 2008, 03:55:16 AM Finally picked one of these up from an out of state dealer at a really good price.
Anyone have problems doing this job themselves? The directions are not that great. Anyone have problems doing this job themselves? The directions are not that great. The directions are beyond "not that great". They are horrid!!!! Mine is getting the tail chop done at the dealer today. Yesterday they installed the oil cooler and it is very clean looking. Pics when I get it back. Title: Re: Ducati short tail kit Post by: duclvr on December 12, 2008, 10:17:41 AM Well I finally had this done today. Dealer did it. First one they had done and it required some modifications because the plate bracket is
designed for European plates, not US plates. Overall I think it came out nice. I'd like to be able to mount the plate up higher than using the stock mount will allow, so I'm contemplating modifying the kit bracket to do that. Interested in what approach you took. Cheers. |
