Title: Are there any VW mechanics in the house?
Post by: FatguyRacer on December 02, 2008, 09:51:12 PM
I need to know if Mark 5 Jetta brakes are the same as Mark 4 Jetta brakes. There is no Haynes for the Mark 5's.

I am no Mechanic but I had one of each in my shop the other day, and it didn`t look the same.

Although the V was upspec model and the IV was the entry level [thumbsup]

no, way different, biggest prob is probably the 5x112 over 5x100.

do you need brakes for a MKV?

Need to change rear pads and rotors. I have the rotors and pads. I went to the WWW to seach out some DIY info and only found Mk4 stuff. Mention was made of having to replace bearing races in the rotors and replace bearings too. I didnt get those parts yet.

nope, no need to do anything with the bearings. they went to sealed bearings with the MKIV chassis, all MKIV and MKV vehicles have non serviceable bearings.

you will need a special tool to depress the caliper (it has to be turned while being pressed down)

Thanks for that link. I have the Lisle 6 sided universal tool for the piston. I should go back to the import parts store and get the 12pt tool too.

A.A.B. is a great place for VW parts. I have been getting stuff from them when there where only 3 guys working out of Mark the owners barn in his back yard. Plus they sponsered my buddy and I when we raced in Targa Newfoundland.

If you happen to talk to Wayne, he has a Ducati.  [moto]
