"It's as close to a Formula 1 as you're gonna get."
IT's good to see someone who can afford all that stuff, and still appreciates it for the marvels that they are.
"It's no bargain. No wait, I take that back, it is a bargain!"
My two favorite lines were
"It's like a Harley that went to college"
And
"It's just a couple of meatball subs heavier" [laugh]
Leno is one seriously cool dude. He's got more money that God and yet he's still downto earth. The kind of guy you'd want to have as a friend and hang out with.
what an amazing sound. Very cool that he actually rides it (and doesn't just let it sit in the garage to look pretty).

+1, He actually grew up in my home town and went to High School with my parents. They say he really hasn't changed much.
You guys crack me up. If some smoe posted a vid of himself riding up and down the road on D16RR, you guys would be saying shit like, I bet it never sees the track....Too bad he will never ride it like its supposed to be ridden....Just another rich guy w/ too much money. etc. etc., but since it's Leno. Oh he's so cool, gee he's a regular guy, etc. [roll]
I crack me up all the time!
I wouldn't ride that bike if I could afford it. I'd poop my pants!

This is funny, at least to me.
I'm not exactly a Leno fan. I think I've watched his show maybe 4-5 times. I was just commenting on how nice of a guy he seems to be. Plus he is a real enthusiast and collector. It doesn't appear that he buys bikes to put them in an office and look at them. Did you hear him talk about how some of the other bikes handled? And what about the Hailwood he bought new? He wasn't exactly a household name back in 1985 when he bought that.
I've also read a few articles that mention him hanging out at some local meeting place up in the hills of California like he was a regular guy. You never hear that sort of shit about any other stars.
There is a difference between an enthusiast and a poser. The enthusiast is someone who truely believes in what he is doing and has passion about it. A poser is someone who pretends to. Jay is obviously the former and that is something I respect regardless of who he is or how much money he has.
I was a little kid and I was in the van with my family when we drove past him (standing on the side of Mulholland getting his photo taken overlooking the valley). We all waved at him and he smiled and waved back. [thumbsup]
I had the great fortune to work with him on a middle east USO tour, he is an alright guy.
I'm looking for a video of Tom Cruise riding his DR16 but can't seem to find one I know he can ride I saw top gun. ;D

Ducati wasn't even a household name back in 1985.

I don't think it is now, either. ;)

that is just too cool. For one, a McClaren F1??? id crap my pants if i saw one driving around... then to find out Jay Leno is driving it??? I read one of the posts and some dude said he could have gotten a ride but he hadnt hit up the twistys in a while so he did that instead of riding around in the best car ever with Jay Leno!! [bang] [bang] [bang]
I dont know about you but i can hit up the twisties when i want... jay leno is not always there with his F1
he seems to be a real car/bike guy...very cool. I have a new found respect for him!
Can we make Jay an honorary member?

Depends on which household you're talking about. Both Hailwood and Ducati were household names at my house, such as it was, in 1973. And I was awestruck when my bud rolled up with the first 750 Sport and later that year another with his Green Frame 750 Desmo Super Sport (which he still has). Just depends on how old you are I guess.
And in 1978 at the age of 38, Hailwood was back at the Isle of Man, that he had sworn off, and was more like a GOD than he was a household name. Lapped at something like 112 MHP. A make the beast with two backsing God.
I like Leno too.
What's really cool is how close the performance of a garden variety 1198S comes to a DesmoSedici at less than 25 large.
This is another golden age of motercycles. The last I remember was the early 70's.
Just depends on how old you are I guess. [thumbsup] [moto] [drink]
