...or some people should just be beaten.
So I am upgrading my computer and selling some parts I decided not to use (2 brand new unopened HD4850 video cards) on EBay.
I post them for what I paid less MIR. Listed as brand new in retail packaging, this is how I sent them out.
Fast forward to the past few days.
I recieve a message from one of the buyers. He states that the retail packaging has been opened, part of the inner box is missing, and the packing material is gone. Fortunately for me, I photograph everything with a computer printed shipping label before i ship it to hlp with any possible damaged in transit insurance claims.
I reply with the photo and state that I am happy to help with filing a claim with the carrier or will even give a full refund if he wants to send the item back. After calling me a liar and saying that I created the fake package AFTER his complaint, the buyer then states that he can't send it back or file a claim because he has already opened the package(which was supposedly already open when delivered) and given the video card to someone else because it is "useless to him in that condition". I asked him for photos of the packaging so that I could possibly pursue an insurance claim on his behalf and he never responded.
Today, I log into EBay to check a few other auctions I have going and find that my feedback has gone down by 1. I check and this guys has left negative feedback for me. So now, after 7+ years of EBay transactions and over 1500 positive feedbacks, I have gotten my very first neutral/negative feedback all becaus some douchebag is misdirecting his frustration. I have appealed to EBay and the initial response is pretty positive but they have to give the guy 7 days to respond to my appeal before they are willing to remove it. If he does respond, then we will both have an opportunity to present evidence of our claims.
Just totally blows that I had stopped putting in my auctions that if you have less than 100% positive feedback, don't bother bidding. Because he also is the first bidder I have ever had with less than 100% feedback. The guy has 6/78 transactions with negative feedback and 7 more neutrals.
Hope EBay sees this for what it is as his negatives are all related to similar claims.
Oh yeah...I forgot to mention the buyer's remorse. This guy also contacte me the day I shipped the card stating that I should hold the item as he already got one and didn't need this one and wuld most likely want a refund. Sounds rather fishy to me.

I haven't used ebay in over a year, but you used to be able to cancel a person's bid. I used to do it all the time if someone shady bid on one of my items. If they still allow it, you might wanna keep that in mind next time you list something there.
I've given up on eBay completely except for buying stuff. I've sold a couple grand of stuff on Craigslist in the last 2 weeks and it's awesome - no shipping to deal with, no 8% commission, and sweet sweet CASH ;D
Adam
Someone did that to me with a cell phone. Sent me back a damaged one. :/
I didnt know you could fight negative feedback. Paypal sided with him even though i sent video evidence Which is where my 1 negative feedback came from.
SADLY, Sellers cant give negative feedback. i have no IDEA WHY. IT IS COMPLETE BULL SHIT. but as a selling tool, you should stay the make the beast with two backs away from ebay.
hope you get that feedback removed. its gotta be pissing you off man. :-\
Welcome to the 1 negative feedback club :( I sent a brand new visor to a guy. He gets it and decides he doesn't want it. Tells me it is all scratched to hell. I tell him to send it back and I refund everything but return shipping (everything paypal allows me to). The visor was still perfect. He is still mad so he gives me a negative and there is nothing I can do.
There is something new under the policy about reviewing feedback. How I read it though you still need the other person to agree it was wrong to leave a negative. That is useless if they are a prick.
A buyer can buy something perfect and still leave a negative and all you can do is .... leave a positive? lol

+11ty Billion.
WTF is up with Ebay not letting sellers leave Negative feedback. It has changed the whole dynamic of the site. What are sellers supposed to do in a situation like this? The buyer can do what he wants, be a complete dick and the seller can't even tell the rest of the world what an asshole the buyer is. Complete BS!
I wrote ebay an email right after they changed the policy and didn't even get a response.
There are a bunch of other changes too like having to wait up to 21 days to get paid for certain items like computers and electronics unless you have 50 positive feedbacks as a seller. The only way to get your money sooner is if the buyer leaves positive feedback then Paypal will release your funds.
It's all a big scam really. You pay Ebay for listing your item, then you pay again when it sells, then you have to pay Paypal just to get paid. The sad thing is that most people won't even bid anymore unless you take Paypal so you're stuck using them. [bang]

+1. The worst part about the eBay/PayPal collusion is that the fees can exceed 10%, which isn't a lot on smaller items, but I was considering selling my road bike on eBay and it was almost $100, and even more if I wanted a reserve. I put it up on Craigslist with some good pictures, and within a week I have a local buyer who has sent me a deposit and will be picking it up this weekend.
I'm all done w/ eBay for selling unless it's something incredibly esoteric with limited appeal ... And even then, i'll try CL first.
Adam
+1, i paid over $200 after fees to sell my Monster on ebay. Ridiculous.

Adam

While you are listing the auction there arre options to block bidders that live in countries that you don't ship to.
As far as the auctions that are ending just go in and cancel the bids from the Canadians. I'm sure they wont mind......They're Canadians! [laugh]
So I finally got a response from EBay on my request to remove negative feedback...
Dear Ryan,
Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the negative Feedback you
received from member "imprezastipwr" for item number 270305627905.
Ryan, I understand your concern on the negative Feedback you received. I
know this event on your part must have been extremely frustrating for
you, especially when you have always been a conscientious member of eBay
and have worked hard to build a good reputation in the eBay community.
However, we provide the feedback system and discussion boards so members
can speak their mind freely without worrying about being censored. But
we can only do that if members are solely responsible for their
comments.
We know that members occasionally receive feedback that they feel is
inaccurate, or just plain unfair. I understand how frustrating that can
be.
Regrettably, I can't remove the feedback comment you received because it
doesn't meet our requirements for removal. Please keep in mind though
that the Positive Feedback Percentage is now calculated using only your
past 12 months of activity. So older negative feedback will no longer
affect your Feedback score.
On the other hand, we believe that most issues can be resolved with a
simple conversation. In this regard, we recommend that you contact your
trading partner directly to explain your situation and ask them to
revise the Feedback they left.
Before submitting a Feedback revision request you need to:
- Resolve any problem that took place between you and buyer during the
transaction
- Contact the buyer to tell him or her that you're requesting a Feedback
revision and explain your reason
You can get to the revision request form a few ways:
1. Click on the Site map, at the top of the page. The select the
Request Feedback Revision link under Community area.
2. Access the Feedback Forum, from the Site map or Community page, then
use the Request Feedback Revision link under the Feedback Tools section
3. From My eBay select > Account > Feedback. In the header of your
most recent Feedback is a link to Request Feedback Revision
Please note that you can submit only one Feedback revision request per
transaction.

And my response:
All of the steps you have requested I take, have been taken and the buyer refused a refund and assistance with an insurance claim with the shipper. He also stated that if I didn't refund his money WITHOUT him shipping the item back that he would leave negative feedback. Frankly, that is feedback extortion AND a blatant violation of EBay's own feedback policy.
How can a seller defend himself when a plain old pissed off person who is simply refusing to be logical about the whole situation can screw over a just plain good seller's reputation?
On another note, your "12 month feedback" rating makes it even look worse than it is as now I have 96% negative feedback from this one transaction.
Ebay has done nothing but spit in the face of the seller time and time again by continually raising both listing fees and final sale fees. Ebay has made it so the seller has absolutely no recourse when they have recieved negative feedback from a buyer who leaves negative feedback strictly because it makes them feel like a big person.
I know i am some little guy and hardly even a bird on EBay's radar. But this experience coupled with the responses from other EBay sellers I have recieved on the 40 or so forums I have posted this experience on hardly seems to be the exception but the norm.
Frankly, this experience has soured me to EBay as a whole. Especially considering the several thousands of dollars in transactions I have had over the last 6 months. In fact, I am now beginning to understand why websites such asforum for sale sections and Craigslist have become so popular. They don't put it to the little guy who is their bread and butter when the little guy did EVERYTHING in his power to make a belligerent and completely uncooperative customer happy.
Instead, I get some nonense about how THIS type of feedback is fair. You say you do it this way so that no member of the EBay community feels that they are being censored? How about the seller who doesn't even get a voice? Silencing anyone as you have done to sellers on your community is the worst form of censorship.
I guess I will just take my business elsewhere while expressing the unfairness of your feedback system everywhere I can on the internet while doing everything I can on behalf of all of the sellers who you have alienated by your own brand of censorship.
Thank you EBay. Thank you for giving the finger to the very people who make up your lifeblood.
