Title: how to make cats get along
Post by: MrFryMoto on December 03, 2008, 09:23:34 PM
so, many of you probably remember the post about Sebastian our new 6month old orange tabby. Well, we were hoping that he and Layla (4 year old tortishell) would get along.
she's an outdoor cat that comes in for food, he's a full-time indoor until he gets big enough to fight raccoons.

if she hears or smells him inside the house she bolts out the door. When we can lock her inside, she growls and wants nothing more than to get out. We've tried locking them in a room together hoping one would establish dominance, but they just hiss at each other until one backs off.

help us DMF! you're our only hope!!

Cook them in a ginger reduction. They are tasty  [thumbsup]

Seriously, I have no Idea. Cats are like women, impossible to understand.

My fiancée's cat came to live with me well over a year ago.  I also have a large, orange tabby that was a stray my sister took in but couldn't keep.  Those two STILL don't get along.  Not sure there's much you can do.  However, are both cats fixed?  That makes a HUGE difference.  Nothing is more territorial than a fixed female cat.

Bringing a kitten in w/ a 4 year old doesn't work too well.
Once a cat gets to be 2 years old or so, it doesn't take well to new cats.

Let them hiss at each other. They'll fight every once and a while. Eventually one will become more dominent and the other one will just learn to stay the make the beast with two backs away.

You could use the "How to get two piccolo players to play in tune" option.   Shoot one.

A cat's mind cannot be changed,  at least not by me.  One cat is enough anyway, IMHO.

You're on the right track. My cat freak friend says catnip. Didn't even hesitate.

Four step process:

1.  Put them all in a potato sack

2.  Dump them in the nearest river.

3.  Treat yourself to a chocolate milkshake

4.  Go buy a dog.

Well, yeah; Step 4 was a late add-on.  Plus, the chocolate shake can be optional.  [cheeky]
