Title: Aflac Anyone? Post by: mags on May 11, 2008, 09:52:35 PM Does anyone have Aflac? My work has open enrollment for the next two weeks. The little booklet has information on:
1. Personal Accident Indemnity Plan 2. Hospital Protection 3. Personal Disability Income Protector 4. Personal Cancer Indemnity Plan 5. Specified Health Event Protection (Stroke, Heart Attack, Renal Failure, Organ Transplant...) 6. Life Insurance 7. Dental 8. Vision If you selected each plan for both you and your spouse, the monthly premiums really start adding up, and I'm not sure what will really be beneficial and worth the money. So if anyone has Aflac, what do you think? Is it worth it? And if you don't mind my asking, what Aflac plans do you have? Title: Re: Aflac Anyone? Post by: Rev. Millertime on May 11, 2008, 10:00:34 PM Don't have it.
Probably never will Had a few friends who had a helluva time getting their $$$. Title: Re: Aflac Anyone? Post by: Grampa on May 12, 2008, 06:23:10 AM I have it, and have used it.
I have the cancer policy. The accident plan, the Hospital protection and personal disability plan. I wrecked on my mt. bike a few years ago, I lost my memory from whack'n my head on the ground (yes I was wear'n a helmet), everybody told me to go to the emergency room, and I didn't. The AFLAC rep, added up what I would have got had I gone.... almost 2 grand :o. I wrote AFLAC, on the inside of the bill on my new helmet, just as a reminder. [cheeky] When I wrecked my s2r800, AFLAC helped pay for the m900 ;D I think I got about 5 grand total, after all the lil things were added up. FYI...... things like track days [moto] , may be excluded. Get a lawyer and read the fine print [laugh] Title: Re: Aflac Anyone? Post by: tommys67 on May 12, 2008, 07:06:01 AM [puts CFP(R) hat on]
Couple of questions - and if you'd like you can PM me the answers. What coverage do you have already (medical / dental / flex. spending, etc.)? What do you feel you truly need right now? I'd guess it's medical coverage, dental coverage, vision (if you need glasses or contacts now - otherwise just go out of pocket / flex spending reimbursement if you have a check up). The basic premise behind most of AFLAC's policies is income replacement. They aren't really insuring the injury, but more along lines of replacing your income in the event of a particular incident or accident. Unfortunately, you need to make a personal assessment of your financial means, the amount of premium you will pay and compare that with your "need" in the event you are out of work. I'd be happy to walk through the numbers with you. As you said - the costs start to add up. [/takes off CFP(R) hat] Title: Re: Aflac Anyone? As for real experience, I have none. I have used Kaiser, Blue Shield and Blue Cross - they all suck in their own special way. Title: Re: Aflac Anyone? Post by: lawbreaker on May 12, 2008, 07:39:38 AM I have AFLAC and have called upon it a few times for injuries on the job. Its almost a standard upgrade for all the guys in my unit AND their families (especially the prego plan for the mrs.)
for me its been worth the extra few bux a payperiod |
