Title: Speedometer reading with 14T on M696 Post by: Craig Thomas on December 10, 2008, 05:33:37 PM (I searched!)
I just got the 14T front sprocket installed on the Monster 696. On the way home, it appeared that the speedometer was reading high, or traffic could have just been hauling butt. The service tech said he'd get back to me on this issue. The speed sensor reads from the rear wheel. Thanks Ducati Gurus... If you still had a question, the speedo reads from the rear wheel, so it is unaffected by any change in either your front or rear sprocket. It measures each rotation of your wheel (or fraction thereof) and assigns it a certain value. Since the speed of your wheel rotation is dependant on speed and not on your gearing, changing gearing has no effect. OTOH, your speedo could be ever so *slightly* affected by change in tire size or brand, but that's not a substantial change. Sometimes my point doesn't come across properly on the internets.

I have the same question since I've just change my rear sprocket to 48t. Glad I do a search first. Thanks. |
