Title: From Stock to modified Streetfighter
Post by: jftoha on December 12, 2008, 02:44:32 PM
Ok, I used Photoshop for the moment because I have not placed my order yet but I think I know what I would do to my Streetfighter once i get it.

My moded verision 1

My moded version 2

I think I like version 2 most. What do you guys think?

Black forks are good.   [thumbsup]

I'd paint the bellypan red (or grey) on the top/front and have the red (or grey) paint go back into a point.  It'll be like a triangle.  The front of the bellypan will be all red and then go back and up to a point at the back.  The line between red and black should mimic the line of hte frame or the tail.  It'll eliminate some of the boxiness of the bellypan.

For the exhaust, angle it upward just a bit more.  Keep it clear of the SSS.  You also want enough clearance for passenger pegs, but if you can have a straighter header and a more angled exhaust, it'll look tough.

Definitely debling the clutch cover.

version one grabs me better for some reason.
(never thought i would vote against the 'black out everything' version)

Mod 2 for sure.  I love the blacked out theme.  Going for that on my S4R.

I like the red frame, but I also dig the stock forks.  Definitely black on the rims though.  Well done.

If you want clip-ons why not just buy a 1098 or 1198? The riding position is the whole point here  [bang]

I would take any modded versions as they all look FAR better than stock.

don't want bodywork and don't like uncovered sbks without a lot of work done to them to change how they look naked.

Riding position is so easy to change..why not change it instead of buying a different bike that would take more work to make into what you (I) want?
Title: Re: From Stock to modified Streetfighter

One of the problems with converting a SBK into an upright riding position is the geometry/weight distribution equation.  Every 996 that I know that has been converted with Monster bars (top of triples) and corrected rearsets (ala Monster riding position) becomes rather "light" in relation to the frontend. (wheelies are very easy due to weight distribution changes with us 200lb+ riders) Thus why a Ducati ala the Streetfighter has slightly more rake in the frontend and a longer swingarm to counteract this.  Yes -- wheelies are fun -- but not constantly. It is why I always thought the S4RS was such a great all round package in how it worked in comparison to a converted SBK setup.

Clutch cover?  Ha...too many options out there already in aftermarket-land.

My thoughts?!?  The belly-pan looks too....um....origami-ish to me.  Need to do something better with that part.

Black wheels are cool, but look too dirty/heavy to me they need to have some color and a lighter one is better as an accent color instead of all black...

Exhaust?  tough one...  I'm with Statler in the 'F the passenger' catagory but that still leaves what to do with the cans as the question...  Stock isn't 'horrible' but it's not stellar either.  Hmmmm....got to think about that one.

I really like the black wheels, but I can see where you say they need a little pick me up.  What about a simple red rim stripe to match the red frame, or black frame for that matter.

As far as the exhaust goes, I think that the rear of the bike needs to be as clean as possible. i.e. no large cans blocking the view.  I like the look of the termi shorty.

On the front of the bike the headlight really isn't doing it for me.  Anyone have ideas there?

If you guys want vented clutch cover, just take the stock streetfighter and machine out the slotted recesses.

3  [thumbsup] Hey guys, I think the belly pan is there to cover up and hide an ass ton of ugly stuff... you seen an 848/1098 without their dress on... lots of plumbing and crap. My guess is they needed a place to hide it and thus the belly pan.

+74 for black on black on black, but...

Anyone else think the tail sticks up too high? Makes me think of those European bikes that they were bending the back of the frames up like a scorpion. Perhaps a clean undertail exhaust would solve my opinion.

I see your point about the tail.  I too think the undertail exhaust or the termi shorty would look pretty good.

Two comments:

I like the belly pan (Am I the only one?) Without it that lower radiator would look really bad hanging down there.

Unfortunately the new clutch cover appears to be plastic. So that may either help any plan to cut out the slots or kill the idea, just depends how you feel about plastic on your bike.
