Title: Curious about custom exhaust tips
Post by: psycledelic on December 13, 2008, 11:33:26 PM
After seeing all of these cool pics of the Boomtubes, I keep finding myself in my garage staring at my Termi's.  Does anyone know if you can even get tips (with or without some type of baffles) that will fit the DP midpipes?  Also, would running without the canisters cause any performance issues?  Easy fix would probably just buy a set of the Boomtubes, but the DP pipes fit closer to the engine and, in my opinion, look better installed.  Just curious at this point.

Tried to post a pic but it turns out I have to do the whole flicker thing.  Anyway I came across this site http://billet-exhaust-tips.com/. I think they have the exhaust tip you're looking for.

For exhaust tips -- there are various options out there as indicated.  Also there are a few online machining shops where you can get something custom made as well.  Trick is making sure the tips as installed within your system are parallel and equal length to look good.

Problem with trying to install baffles INTO your existing system -- you have no straight section of exhaust tubing to facilitate this.  It's why I did BoomTubes the way they are to allow for the parallel straight sections and exhaust tip mounting as part of the collector section itself.

Thus your best option to modify your DP system is to visit a local exhaust shop or welder and get him to build yourself a small section collector or exhaust extension to allow both of the above to be done.  Another option is to build a 2-into-1 collector with one giant outlet in conjunction with your DP system to make all the above happen as well.

Definitely post what you come up with.  Exhausts are fun and there are unlimited ideas that can be created.  My BoomTubes were created due to a functionality issue with my DesmoDevil series of bikes in wanting cornering clearance and my dislike of beautiful motorcycles (and singlesided swingarms/wheels) hidden by ugly exhaust cans.  Then I did 30+ more custom variations thereof for folks over the years in refining and properly engineering them before doing our manufacturing run now due to demand itself now.

I guess, first off, is there gonna be any performance drawbacks.  Am I going to have any issues with backpressure, backfiring, etc.  My Termi kit didn't come with the ECU upgrade, just the pipes and cans.  I still have the stock ECU!
