Took my 695 to Nick at valley ducati for some service work and a few little things. I ditched the canister and he fixed up my miserably failed attempt at a tail chop, which consisted of a dremel massacre and duct tape. The cut on the frame is sooo clean and gorgeous. He even fit a little textile sleeve for the wiring, which beat the hell out of the rubber sleeve that comes stock. I even got me one of them fancy LED tail lights [thumbsup]

Pretty bike, pretty work. Any problems with running w/o belt covers? Would rain make a difference?

Only hazard of running with no belt covers is the possibility for a pebble to take out your valve train. Rare, but not unheard of.
Oh, and keep your fingers away. :o
As for the clipons, your stock forks should be 50mm, but it never hurts to grab a caliper and check. [thumbsup]

The Clip ons are 50mm. I have a set on my 695, but seriously, it's NOT easy; and honestly, if you can't handle a tailchop, doing this yourself will only end in disaster.
I say this meaning no disrespect at all. It was frustrating for me, and I have A LOT of experience working on things.
Just to elaborate on how complicated it is, some of the finer points:
-You have to lower the headlight and gauges for clearance.. This implies cutting the stock headlight Bracket and welding/fabbing new supports and rerouting/rearranging all the wires, cables, etc behind it.
- You have to drill precision holes on the clip ons for the instruments.
- You may need to shorten/lengthen your brake lines. This implies bleeding the system.
- Ditto for the clutch line.
Are you ready for this? do you have the know how?
+1. If you get clip ons with absolutely no rise to clear anything, you will have a NIGHTMARE if you are not prepared for it. Otherwise its just a bunch of stuff you need to do and its just a lot of work.
Do yourself a favor and get some clippys with enough rise to clear any of the problems listed above.
Thanks! I've been running without belt covers for a while, rain or shine, and had no problems. It's still sort of a personal reminder to get those speedymoto belt covers. Just wish they weren't so pricey for such a thing :(
Rest assured, I don't intend to destroy my bike, so I've already scheduled time with Nick to get the work done. If everything goes accordingly, he'll be installing pazzo levers, clip ons, grips, a new top triple, new chain and sprockets AND wrapping my forks in that vinyl business. I just plan on putting them under the triple. Did you go over or under, matador?
And as for the pipes, I'll wait patiently for a pair of straight pipes in february 8)
Not sure what the Speedy Moto clip-ons look like but I wanted the bars low on mine so I went with the Woodcraft. Had to do a few other things like lower the guages and got an aftermarket top triple, mainly cosmetic. I didn't do the work myself, I handed it off to the best of the best, he did a great job. I think the stock bars were more comfortable but the way it looks now is worth the sacrifice in comfort, I'm doing my annual boot camp diet though so by the Spring I should not have as much weight to fight against.

I love how it really cleans up that entire area of the machine. Even though I'm excited for the new feel, the aesthetic advantages of this mod are what pushed me to buy. I hope, soon enough, I can get rid of those gauges too. Mmmm sweet nada.
