Title: credit for sale
Post by: Grampa on December 17, 2008, 07:47:39 PM
I.... have a hard time keeping my trap shut.

Today, on the way to work.... I (as usual) listed to Glenn Beck. Glenn's been focused on the economy for quite some time, and lately, all the news has been bad.

I personally think... the world has been headed towards this economic crisis for some time, and I see it needing to hit depression levels before people wake up, and really try to fix it.  it, being their spending / saving habits.

IMO, people want things too fast. fast info, fast food, fast travel times, fast results.  The world needs to slow down IMO.

So.... today we have a GE money rep come in to  tell us how to up our sales by using credit as a tool.

selling credit.

I kept my mouth shut till he picked me to role play....... then..... I let him have it.

I..... am not going to stress a sense of urgency to some old lady who wants to upgrade her home. I'm not going to stress monthly payments to a guy who walks into the shop, who can barely afford to walk out with one piece of glass. Selling people shit they could not afford, because they thought they needed it NOW.... is part of what got us as a nation into this mess. I will offer it as a payment option to people.... but I'll be damned if I'm going to turn something easy, into some " used car four square, hit'um with the payment jedi mind trick bullshit " routine.

My boss was not happy.

later in the day... the HR tard, got pissy with me for pop'n the guys tires, then proceeded to tell me that... " even if there is a depression, it wont be as bad as the last one,  cuz there wont be tent cities, people will just move into a friends or relatives house, and that the last one was bad because there were not enough houses, and with all the forclosures, that's proof there a plenty of homes for people to stay in"

she has a degree

she shot my GED all to hell.

1) She is right that it won't be as bad as the last one. Imagine losing your job, house, and all the arable land you were farming just got swallowed in a dust bowl, and your money in the bank is gone and your stocks/pension are worthless.

I don't see that quintuple whammy happening this time. Maybe 2-3 out of 5.

2) That doesn't mean she's not an idiot.

That's funny GE wants you to sell credit because they are denying people with 800+ credit scores. We have missed $250,000.00 plus in sales over the past two weeks, from people getting denied.

Don't forget fast money. Everybody wants that quick buck, instead of a long term income. Greedy bastards

We've got cheap food and really expensive weapons.  [thumbsup]

Seriously, my industry (software) does a huge amount of business overseas.

So we still export stuff, it's just more of an intangible rather than durable goods. And I'd argue the margins on these 'intellectual' items (be it computer programs, or movies, or patents, or whatever) are way better than they are on manufactured items.

And honestly, I'm starting to think Americans have always been kinda slow.

She has a college degree does she? Lettin her Knock your GED are ya?..Let me remind you that these Big banker wall street types also have college degrees, and I don't see any of them fixing this mess they have created.
I think that you will find, those people as not as smart as they make out to be.

In about six months there will be another big wave of loan defaults coming just as big as the last bunch that just came through. Not gonna be as bad eh? Well see.

Bullshit!!!

The people get denied and don't come back, even if they have the money. Now GE won't even let us have access to our reps, there direct lines have disappeared and no call back from the general voice mail boxes. [bang]

And honestly, I'm starting to think Americans have always been kinda slow.

Not when our fathers had their backs against the wall.  During WWII Americans were making bombers faster than the enemy could shoot them down, which was pretty damn fast.

Software may be our last valuable export, but it isn't the same as making nuts and bolts.  Software can't protect us or plant and pick our food.
