Title: Fixing scratched plastic?
Post by: erkishhorde on December 18, 2008, 08:18:45 AM
I have a Samsung S5 mp3 player and it's got a hard clear plastic face that I've totally buggered up. I've dropped it twice on linolium floor and then kicked it and sent it skidding for about 10'.  :'( So I've learned my lesson not to run with it in my shirt pocket.  [roll]

Think there's any way to get the scratches out? It's got a touch sensitive screen, you know, one of those non-moving parts buttons thingies. This is what it looks like w/o scratches.

I've used Meguiars PlasticX for pretty good results on my monsters dash lenses and the face/screen of my 'classic' ipod.  The ipod had the normal light scratches and shit that comes from being toted around a lot and the Plastic X buffed it back to a mirror glaze.  Some folks suggest polishes Plexus which I don't doubt are good.. but the Plastic X was 1/3 the price and could be obtained at the local auto parts shop

The Meguiars stuff is good.

I have no idea about the touch screen.

At least on the iphone, the touch sensitive "digitizer" is underneath the glass.  I had a cracked one that I used the touch screen on for 3 weeks.

You may want a second opinion, but I'd be very surprised if Meguiar's would affect the touch feature.
