Out with the old...

In with the new...
I figured I'd start a thread on my exhaust build. First step, I had to make 2 of this piece to bolt the header to the head.

Front cylinder pipe mostly done.

I'm making a 2 into 1 exhaust. I ordered my collector from Burns.
I'm going to make a bracket attaching the header to the bike. Then I'm going to use a v-band clamp to attach the muffler to the header for 2 reasons, I want to be able to switch mufflers easily and I'm not using a bracket for the muffler, so this will be quick and strong. If it ends up looking ugly on the bike, I'll change it.

Rear pipe finished.

First round mostly done, I'll post up muffler pics when I get further along on that part.
Nice work! [clap]
Neato [thumbsup]
Thanks!

Why?
[popcorn]
Looks good to me.
Very nice....
you plan on doing any dyno work to see if it works as well as it looks?
pretty sweet... why put a muffler on it? maybe just a different tip, and then possibly you could put some baffles in there if it's too loud? looks great though...
WOW! that's pretty enough to hang on the wall as art. [thumbsup]
Damn, great job...and looks awesome!! [bow_down]
I love this board. [beer]
</dancing santa emoticon>
Looks very nice! However have you taken look at the clearance on your vertical cylinder header? Those springs look like they might interfere when the swingarm compresses. Have you loaded the rear yet?
i like this a lot and i look forward to seeing it complete.
great job.
Wow, very nice; I've never seen those ones before.
Very nice indeed! Can't wait to see the finished product!!
Thanks everyone! Why put a muffler on? The bike is too loud for me without mufflers, I've done it. I might make a short tip long enough for just a baffle, that's why I built it like this, so I can switch it up when ever I get bored or want to try something new. I also want to be able to unbolt this pipe and install the under seat Desmosedici style muffler I'm building. It will exit up through a carbon fiber solo seat. I'm relocating out of state, so that project is in limbo for a couple months. But I'll be able to quickly throw the stock seat and this muffler back on for passengers. I will probably make a shorty carbon muffler like the Termi one for the S4R, but that'll be later on too.
I don't plan on doing any dyno runs unless I install some engine management. I'm mostly doing it for sound/style.
Yep, the springs clear the swing arm when the bike is loaded. It's tight, but it worked out perfectly. If I build another, I might put it up a little higher, but I'd have to change the angle coming out of the head a little.
Thanks again for the positive feedback! [beer]
Very nice
But on my 2 in 1 system (Sil) the headers are hold by two springs on to the heads
Think it's looking nicer and you only have to clip them lose and you can take of the headers

nice work! really looks good!
would you mind posting your part numbers and quantities you used from Burns? I am geting my shopping list together for a new exhaust and some of you system is similar to mine.
thanks,
RB

+1 Would be interested as well to find out what parts.
I would rock it the way it is (no muffler) [thumbsup]
I got a little more done.
I need to decide on the length I want and trim it. Then I'll wrap the inner pipe and install the tip.
I started the shape for my carbon tip. I need to figure out my muffler length so I have a diameter figured out
before I can finish my tip.
It's hard to see the definition in the tip. You'll have to use your imagination here...
I wanted it to start further under the bike, be a little thicker and a lot shorter. The 2 into 1 merge collector took up more space that I figured.
There are a couple different mufflers I wanna try, so I'm not gonna sweat it much.
Wow, lookin' great!! [thumbsup]
Can't wait for new pics!!
I would put the pipe/muffler up higher.
I always feel it's a shame to cover up the wheel on a SSS bike.
(my opinion)
That looks H [evil] T! [thumbsup]

IMO, looks great where it is. I like the "negative space" between sss and tail.
Must be nice to be that talented. Gonna be sweeeeeet [thumbsup]

I love the looks, but it also looks like it would flow very well. Beautiful work and very nice collector. I've always leaned towards extended megaphones myself.

[clap] Nice job! looks like I need to fire up the Tig and Tube bender. Part #'s would be appreciated. Keep pics coming.

I'f you've got a mandrel bender in your garage, we need to talk :)
very nice work
I gotta change my drawers... :o
nice work, man! can't wait to see it done!
Thanks everyone for the kind words! [beer]
I think I need to make some alone time in the garage tomorrow and get some more done!
The fabrication looks fantastic, the mgaphone tip also is great. The only thing I am a little concerned about is the unequal length of the headers. How much shorter is the vertical cylinder length from head to two into one that the horizontal cylinder

Garage no, Shop yes. As soon as I get some time off I will be in the shop tweeking some pipes. The bender handles up to 2.250 O.D., plenty sufficient for the next project. Does anybody know where to get header flanges for S4RS?
Thats awesome. I wish I had access to a Mandrel bender, but the ones I know of only do production work (and run 24/7).
I've got a run of flanges being made. Should be here in a week or 2.
I cut a few inches of the end. I wrapped the perf. pipe and packed the rest of the muffler. I still have to finish the end cap, but I am moving this week and I won't get to finish it for a couple months. I did start it and it is LOUD! It has a really deep tone though. Sounds mean as hell! ;D
thats voodoo magik! [thumbsup]
Hat's off to you. Excellent work! [bow_down]
Any new progress voodoocati? [popcorn]
Yes post some pics we are all waiting with baited breath. I am thinking about doing a single exhaust for the 696. I just like the look of singles for some odd reason.

+1 except I lack the tools material and talent to make my own!
Thanks! :)
I haven't gotten totally settled into the new place yet, but I did get a tip welded on before I moved. I still need to make the carbon tip, but I'll get a few pics of what I do have posted up this weekend. [thumbsup]
I snapped a few pics before the sun went down. I still just need to finish the carbon tip.

Damn' that is tits. [thumbsup]
i say leave as-is. no carbon tip.
threadjack....is that a KS plate? Just wondering if you are fairly local?? [bacon]

very nice work!
You have skills my friend [thumbsup]
Looks great! Nice work
beautiful job on the exhaust system and the rest of the bike... but how do you stand riding around with no chain guard?! the nakedness of it looks great, until the grime gets slung all over everything...
Looks great, but gawd-$##@$ it's loud. Way to loud for me, but it isn't mine either [moto] [thumbsup]
Very nice!
Looks like you'll have to remove the can to take off the wheel? Hopefully it's easy to do?
Im not a fan of this style. Having built my own exhaust, I understand the effort you have put in to this project. Very nice job.
Voodoo, what diameter is the perf pipe you used though the can?
wish i could get away w/ a plate bracket like that.
around here, i may as well just write the fix-it ticket myself...

Pics of the exhaust or the bike? This project is still in its rough fabrication stage. I plan on having the exhaust system ceramic coated.
