Title: Finished customer exhaust - Now with a sound clip :)
Post by: TAftonomos on December 19, 2008, 05:28:52 PM
Between 3 different machinists, getting sick, and a 2 week vacation (that spiriled into a 3.5 week on), the megaphone exhaust is finally done.

LOTS of fab work went into the cans themselves.  Bought rolled cans that were welded, didn't like the weld, cut, re-welded.  Made baffle, it might as well have not been there.  Made another baffle, a bit better.  Made a third baffle....OK, now they are tolerable.
Had the mounting points machined, ordered Ti bolts, powdercoated the bracket, and whala.  It's a full termi system with the cans replaced by megs.  If I had time to dyno test it I would.  Still powers up in 2nd gear and gets light in 3rd (I'm 235lbs) like it did with the termi cans, so I'd suspect at least no power loss.  Hard to tell up top, the thing is hauling ass and it's dark.

Enjoy, I hope the new owner will :)  Forgot to add......these are for a bike without a tail chop, so they should look more at home on a bike with the fender, plate bracket, etc..

Looks nice, although for me, I would like to see the cans a little closer together. Maybe the lower can 1/2" up, but that's just me being picky...

Nice Theo!

But where is the sound clip?  [popcorn]

Awesome look.  +1 on the sound clip.  A picture from the side would be nice too.  They look a lot like Doug Cook's ArcFab pipes before he disappeared.

I can only wish to be in a tunnel along side that THING!
I'm sure the video camera audio does not do it justice, but definitely gives it the baseline insanity score of a +11 on a scale of one to ten.

Great work Theo... and what a perfect neighborhood to experiment in!

I take it that bike has a upgraded ECU ?

Thanks for the compliments!

It's got the DP ECU from the termi system on it now.

Curious, why would it matter?

Because without the DP ECU it would be ridiculously lean...

And how would you tell that from a ride back and forth then?  Lean enough that it wouldn't run clean?

You would probably be able to tell more on a long ride that let's it heat up more. But I can't imagine it would be running that much leaner than the Termi's..

I just was wondering why someone would ask if it was on an ECU or not.

I seriously doubt that those megs will make a lick of difference in the A/F ratio, the termi's are straight though as well.

I asked becasue I wanted to see if the bike was running a stock ECU or the DP Ecu.
I am looking into what I can do exhaust wise, and like to know what people are running in their setups.
No reason to have a badass exhaust that makes the bike run like crap...

No doubt :).  I think the easiest way is just the DP ECU in my case.  I'm not familiar with your bike, but the S4RT/S have an O2, that apprently causes all kinds of problems with tuning.  Thankfully I havn't ran into problems.  Sometimes I miss the simplicity of a nice flat slide carb.

Eventually I go to the nemisis, but that will be needed with the bigger TB's, high comp/stroke, and port work.

I have a 07 S2R1K so I am more than fimilar with the dreaded O2, thus why I like to see what others are doing (custom exhaust wise).
Currently running the open udder with one of those "FatDuc" do-hickies and so far so good, but I def. want the bike louder. If i could get it sounding like the pipes
you made (and also running well) I would be a very happy man...

looks like good quality craftsmanship.  i like the look of them.

but way too loud.  if you want loud just go all the way and forget the baffles at all.

STRAIGHT PIPES ALL THE WAY!!!!

I think I read somewhere you need the actual bike or same model in order to fab up anything for anyone (makes sense)... Could you make a megaphone minus the whole pipe set up?

Depends on what bike you've got.  PM or email me.
