I first heard the story on NPR the other day (may have been the BBC re-broadcast) but can't find the link; the best part of the story is missed by the Daily Mail piece above -- after they called for a cease fire, they came back asking for shoes because of all the broken glass on the deck. Then they came back saying their speedboats were out of gas!
Man, those dudes aren't pirates. Don't they watch movies?

I though this was in referrence to Whale Wars, when the Capt. of the Steve Irwin claimed to have been hit by a bullet. He even dug it out of his bullet proof vest.... the level of lunacy aboard that ship though and his calmness about it make me wonder if he didn't stage it. Have the vest and badge shot ahead of time and later claim it came from else where.

Yeah, I was wondering if that was beer or some kind of weird-ass juice. I know I'd be drinkin' in that situation though.

Wow, your eyes are better than mine -- and those are some of the few characters I still remember after 20 years of neglecting my Chinese.
I was watching a doc on the Emma Maersk, and their entire security strategy for pirates was to strap water hoses to the rails overnight. No watch, no security staff, not even anyone there to aim the hoses. It's a wonder ships don't get overrun more often than they do if that is their defense against crazy armed-to-the-teeth pirates. Glad to hear someone is finally learning to fight back.
