Title: Bike Lust (Track or Street)
Post by: bryant8 on December 22, 2008, 08:00:37 PM
What's the bike or bikes that you're lusting over right now, street or track?  Why?

I'll go first.

I want a track bike so I don't toss the 848 down yet.  I'll still track it, but it's tough to push it b/c I'd be heart broken if/when it goes down

As you can see, I'm not into the litre bikes.  I'm not adept enough to use all that power....yet  [evil]

Ducati 748 (street/track) - Tamburini...too pretty not to ride on the street, needs to be run on the track like all good Ducs [thumbsup]
Ducati 749R (track) - no explanation needed, simply badass
Triumph Daytona 675 (track) - there's a reason it was bike of the year a few years back
Aprilla RS125 (track) - probably could learn the most from riding this.  I still want to check it out over at Eurosport Cycles in Ft Worth
Yamaha R6 or CBR600RR (track) - probably the ideal track bike.  easy parts to find and great performance, and tons of them on the used market

I want a PS with full exhaust, new lighter sealed wheels, BB kit, racing flywheel, rearsets, comfort seat, and some bling accessories (billet).  That's really all I'm "lusting" over...

Those are hot... I remember when AMS had the "hot-rodded" one w/ the 1080 kit and some J. Nash port and polish work on the inside.  That was a sick sounding bike

Barneephife's SC (street) - better fit for me then the M600     ;)

Ducati 900 SS for me.  I personally like the style and lines of the older models.  Many just look too much alike now, for my taste that is.
For cruising I still like my Roadstar, loads of torque and smooth as hell BUT that Goldwing with heated everything keeps eyeing me....there, I came out. [laugh]

Anything Ducati with a nice exhaust (preferrably Termis) that runs great and has no issues.  No bling or other extras needed.

Oh and the maintenance has to be free of cost.

Ideally, an 848, or one of the new streetfighters coming out 03/2009.

Streetfighter - it may be the meanest looking thing I have ever seen - In black please.  Probably splatter myself in about 8 minutes, for the street
'09 SC 1000s - now available in black with the full fairing - for the living room
Daytona 675 - for the track (when my wife isn't looking!)

Paul Smart (living room) too pretty to get dirty

2005 999R (living room) I don't even have the cahones to push the 916 (major shrinkage  [roll])!

1999 996 RS @ AMS (living room) are you kidding me?

the 2005 Monster 1000S I have will have to make do as a bike I will bring to the track.  It's almost ready.  ;D

would really love a dedicated track bike--848 perhaps (since we're wishing)

Also, those 1100 monsters are looking sweet for the street.   [evil]

Also for the street, I would add a sport tourer--Triumph Sprint 1050, Suzuki HB.

Gotta agree about the Aprilia 125 although lusting for a 250 model they keep denying. Me thinks they want to put one out in a 500 instead. That bike is small for me so my 'Ultimate' wish would have to be a track bike along the lines of a PS. I did not know there was a 1080 kit for it. I know in good the PS is around 100 hp. But my fat arse carcus needs the sbk torque in the corners to turn me out of a tight apex. So, it'd have to say either a 999s or r but would really like a PS set up like T has it. Although after riding CDC's monster I do really like that torque it has. 1098s is bad to the bone but again, just a little too short forme.
1. - PS track bike
2. - 999/s or r
3. - 1978-79 Desmo 900
4. - fix up my ST4s with mods  ;D

I'm still massively lusting after my own bike.  Needs clear coat to protect lisa's handiwork, and maybe some ohlins internals and pipes down the line...

Other than that, I love the PS, would love the new black SC, and still jizz in my pants over the MV Agusta 750 silver/red paint scheme..  Also probably the Benelli Tornado Tre 900 ( everything they came out with afterwards looks a little funny to me, even for the Italians ).

Also, I'm cool with the spaceship look...

I'm lusting over the 09 Aprilia RS125.  I figure you upgrade the suspension, throw in a full racing exhaust (the european street legal exhausts for 2 strokes mess up the power curve way too much, I've heard), re-carb it, throw some track plastics on it and you have a 255lbs (say - 5 lbs for the exhaust and -5 pounds for headlights, street platics, etc..), say 35hp machine (30hp is the EU legal restriction, shouldn't be hard to hit 35hp).

Sounds like something with which I could get my confidence back.  Again.

Why the 125 and not the 250?

Those are nice...  [thumbsup] But my reasoning right now is: "crashing a 125 has to hurt less than crashing a 250".  Plus, I'd like to step down a bit from a 72hp SV650, just to regain some confidence (and maybe gain some skill).

125 is easier to highside than a V2 SV650... trust me....  im sure you watched all those RedBull guys and GP125 how they get ejected from their bikes when they do a small mistake with the trothle in full lean!! [laugh]

Good point...

Hmm, so maybe I should change my dream bike to a KTM 690 supersingle (are those out yet?)...

Although I have to admit, there's something appealing about a 250lbs track toy...

When at the IMS show in Dallas this year I talked with a Dallas Aprilia dealer about the bike. He said he knew there were 250s in Europe he thought but were not going to import them into the U.S. We talked about the subject of where he thought they might go with this 125 track only bike concept and he said that Aprilia had a 4-stroke small cc bike in that configuration that was for the U.S. but not for another few years. It might be just hype I have no idea. I'm just reporting the news. I'll also keep my eyes on TWO magazine for anything.

RS250 was available in US also as a track bike, they even had a CUP a few years back, you can find a used for 4500-6000 if you look in the right places. 125 is street legal in Europe and comes here with all lighting etc but as a trackbike, BUT suspension is on the budget side no adjustments to make.....

Looks like you'd need a carbon fiber codpiece to ride it.  The angle on that seat is pretty steep, especially with some hard braking.  ouch

Hard to believe the Monsters are that customizable, all you see are frame, engine, wheels, and tank.  neato!

ps: is this bike in San Antonio?

The bike was listed this week on the Mike Hailwood forum. Several MH's for sale from 9.5k up. This one is located in Georgia. The collector has another MH in RED/Silver plus he has a nice Laverda 750, a nice MV Senna, HD and a Husky dirt bike. Nice collection of toys on his Flickr account.

So what's the prob with riding the MH? Is it the position? This has setbacks so I thought it might be at least a little more accomodating to the rider. I liked the color scheme.

True, yes it is young Luke, mmm yes.

I was a little surprised to see the prices on them from the collectors who tell their stories about how much money they had to put down in advance and what they've done with them. Most have set them up in the living room. It's all on the MH forum site! I had thought they were 30k+

i think they sold  for 15k in 2000 over the internet, as far as riding, they are too freakin tall if you are shorter than 5,9 you are in trouble... im not kidding, you think the sportclassics are tall? try a MHe... [popcorn]

They had/have electrical gremlins.... and the fuelling needs a lot of work to run perfect as far as i remember, Mechanics hate them all over the world... [laugh] Was  a great looking bike but if you can live with the  rediculous riding position and hight i would find a wrecked Monster 1000 or Sportclassick or Multistrada and ill transplant the motor and electrics into the MHe... That would be some extra money but i think it will make the bike better...

I found 4 MH900e for sale on cycletrader. They are all going for around $13k-14k, and that is without the carbon bodywork. And we all know how expensive that is!

$10.5k seems alarmingly cheap to me.

Actually, I think the 10.5k price must be BS. Where is it for sale? Isn't this the one that AMS had for $17.5k?

yeah, I think you can find them between 10.5 and 14K, but with the carbon bodywork it sounds suspicious.....

Never liked the Terreblanche "Hailwoods", I think they are an insult to my real '82 Hailwood Replica. Never understood why Ducati did that in 2000... guess they were just playing with internet sales and it gave Terreblanche something to do. :P

I found it through the forum here under other bikes. the link to one that sold just like it is: http://www.mh900e.org/parlare/topic.php?id=37 . that will take you the post of the sale. If you back track on the that site you'll see other prices and it's the owners board so you can get an idea of what they are selling for. you can also see some pics if you follow some of the links. pretty interesting stuff for that bike.

I saw one of these at the M1100 premiere party here in New Orleans. It's pretty cool for a Harley, I can't say I would ever buy one but it's something different from the same old cruisers.

Last summer flying to the NC beach house I read an article on this bike in Ultimate Motorcycling magazine. This bike looks as if it is cut out rough hewn natural materials. At 2150cc's and 200 hp supposedly hits 200+mph VERY quickly. Price was never printed in the article but not surprised at 275k since it's basically an all billet custom fab one-off bike. Damn beautiful though. Would love to hoist a leg over that one! That has my vote for most lusted after!

<sigh>  I'm actually jonesing pretty hard for a second bike.  but, I have no money.  what little I have is going to the damn french school, and trying to keep my paltry investments with a + sign at the front of them...

what do I want?  a freakin' paul smart and a k1200s/r1200s ( either is fine ).  frankly, i just need to bury my head in the sand and stop looking around, but I can't do it, and so i continue to torture myself and try to figure out how to sell one of Xander's kidneys on the black market.

also, I want a suzuki t500.

and, if we are really in the dream zone, I'd like an MV Agusta, either the red/silver color or the blue/silver color.  or a street fighter.  shit, I'm going to drink something and go to bed.   :(

A Titan would be awesome. Forget the Water Buffalo thread. The T500 is at it's best in the T500J of '72! It was the predecessor of the H1 and H2 Kawis. Nothing like air cooled big bore two stroke street bikes!! The 70s rule dude!!!

they were homolgomating various parts for the assortments of "limited run" 996 SPSs in 1998-2000 ( the foggy, the factory replica 2, the Pista )...  anyone know what goodies were on a '99 Foggy SPS?  Only specific thing I specifically recall were stiffer materials used around the heads and the swanky gold TIN coating on the forks...  other than the "normal" SPS goodies...

my friend raced one in the Greek national Championship without any problems, just buy a low mileage  that's been street ridden no ex-trackbikes...  you have to play a bit with the suspension too, My friend had Bitubo forks and Shock but you can can be happy with  aftermarket shock and some proggresive springs and racetech valves on the front!

I need a pretty decent budget for thise..

Track:
 Yamaha R7
 NSR500
YZF500 (ok pretty much any 500 GP bike form the Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainy, Mick Doohan days)
 Triumph Daytona 675

Street:
I have ridden these both quite a bit and had a blast on them

MV Brutale 910R
Triumph Speed Trip

I know the S3 isn't very exotic... but I like to think I have realistic goals

Triumph computers can be reflashed with a Triumph offroad tune (some variations depending on setup), or one of the other vendors. There are also some tuner boxes or laptop software that allows you to tune them yourself.  We are thinking mine is one of the Triumph tunes, but it would be fun to get some tuner software to 'look under the hood' so to speak.

I've done a little bit of research about the D675 and found that lots of folks use the "TuneBoy" software.  There is the Triumph "Race Kit" that costs about the same as a D675, but has everything you'd want.

I'm thinking about it.  It's a bit more than what I want to pay for a trackbike, but you never know.

I looked at another one yesterday that has some blemishes but is closer to my $$ range.

Another option would be Aprilia RSV1000 they are going cheap and you still can do European trackdays...

Went over to RPM and checked out their showroom this weekend.

After talking to the guys over there, I'm pretty sure the D675 is going to be a great overall bike for the track.  They did have 3 of the Ape RS125 there... very tempting

Now I just have to find a D675 that fits the budget

Rich, does that Tuneboy hook up to multiple bikes? The same way?

No.  It is keyed to the serial # in the ECU.

You can get multiple "keys" for multiple ECU's that will work with the same software/cable package...
So I could save you a buncha $$$ if you want to get a key for your bike and use my cable/software.

It is $199AUD* for a key, or $499*AUD for the key, software, and cable (what I have).

It is totally worth the money for the full system.  Hands down.  No doubt about it.

Thanks! It is a sweetheart but I just wish it didn't run ragged like a top fuel dragster.

Randy McCarter actually still has the 996SPS that he helped sell over two years ago stored at the warehome. No s#@t! Some yahoo from New York (no offense New Yorkers but this guy was goofy regardless of home his State!) bought the bike sight unseen and it was his first bike ever! He took out a loan, and it was paid for in full. He wanted Randy to hold the bike until spring (he bought it in Dec. 2006) and he would fly down then and ride it home. Did ya' get that? He would ride the Tamburini all the way back to NY!!! He would be hospitalized after the first day on the highway and would need lifetime chiropractic care if he ever did make it to NY!!

Anyway, the guy just disappeared. Maybe got in touch once or twice over two years but hasn't been heard from ever since. Is that not the weirdest story anyone has ever heard?? WTF?? Have Randy give you the details sometime. Just weird as hell. Good story but weird. :P

I've been seriously kicking around the idea of getting a KX65 and making a mini motard. That or an STI open gun for USPSA (race gun). Both would be about the same cost. $3500 to be competitive.

Didn't know you were an ISPC shooter? Used to be knee deep in that and 3-gun long ago. Not open class. More of a stock IDPA kinda guy. Taught tactical shotgun for 11 years. Lived (figuratively not literally) at Thunder Ranch when Clint Smith was based out of the Kerrville area and I'm friends with Louis Awerbuck, have taken tons of tactical classes from him and John Farnam with DTI. Scooters and firesticks just seem to go together. Gearhead thing I guess? [thumbsup] Ever go out to Tac-Pro by Stephenville?

Yeah, but it's been a while. I'm pretty much a stock guy too. Shot a lot of Production class in USPSA. Did it mostly in Wichita falls at Double Tap Ranch. Shot A LOT of IDPA here locally, houston, and OK. That was about 4 years ago. I PM'd you.

Steve

$2500 on a KX65? (+ the KX $1000) what are you going to do to it?

My mini KX65 had
SM wheels with Stainless spokes and Dunlops
Ohlins rear shock revalved
Fork springs
ProCircuit exhaust
brake line and race pads

That's all you need to have a competitive KX65 but on this class pretty much every bike has the same mods and the best riders are on top

With $2500 you have a nice KX65 motard for TMGP [thumbsup]
