I shot off an email in response to a craigslist ad last night for a seemingly local construction job w/ good pay. Got a semi-generic reply back today asking for a lot of the same info that I had just sent them. They also sent a link to a generic insurance quote request form and said that I was required to fill it out to see if I met their insurance criteria. I've never, ever had to do that for a job before.
Already skeptical, I filled out the form and within 3 minutes got 2 calls in a row from an out of town #. I didn't answer and no message was left. Googled the # and it came back to a residential address in GA, w/ a different name from the name in the emails.
I didn't bother to send any references as requested by the reply email, cause I don't want them (my references) to be bombarded by telemarketers.
Also, I had never heard of them, so I checked the state database for contractors and nothing came up that matched the name in the ad. There were some that were a pretty close match, but all either had expired licenses or were several hours away.
I sent an email back to them asking for some kind of verification that they were a legit business before I give them any more info.
Has anyone ever seen this before?
what info did the form require?
If you haven't met anyone face to face yet, I wouldn't send them anything else. Even if it's legit, it just seems sketchy.

The thing is, I already sent all the information that he's asking for in my initial email, minus the references. And the "positions are filling up fast" line gets me. They advertised 10 job openings and I emailed him within an hour or two of the ad being posted.
I'm 99.999% sure it's not legit. But why go thru all the trouble just to get someone to request a free insurance quote?
They might get a kickback for every new name that fills out the "insurance" form. There's money to be made in mailing lists and such.
Sounds to me like a scam. The words that always kick my skeptical side into gear are "going fast" ... "don't delay" ... any such words to add pressure.

I encountered a scam on craigslist job openings. I too was suspect after the email they responded with was asking for info that was on my resume.
I got a couple telemarketer calls the day or two following.
