I have a friend who will sell me a new set of Pilot Power 2's for $100. He mounted them on a bike, ran a couple miles, then removed them to sell the bike. I don't need new tires yet but I figured i could store them until mounted. Would this be a good tire for a second set of tires on my first bike. I did not know how the would compare durabilty wise and grip wise to the Battleaxes that came stock.
2CT's are good tires. The benefit is dependant on how you ride
Just commuting to and from work (highway and city) as well as some joyriding on the weekends with friends. Nothing too crazy, just like cruising. Again, I am still new so I am not trying to push anything, or considering track type stuff.
Those are great tires and a good price.
Personally I dont worry to much about the tire life. More important is how well it will grip the road.
I have gone though 4 sets of Pilot Powers on my S4R and I will prob STICK with those tires. No Pun intended ;D
Oh be sure its the right tire size.
I think the 696 is a 160 in the rear and 120 in the Front. Depending on the bike he had them on he might have a 180 or 190.
You dont want to put a wider tire on a bike thats not designed for it I have read.
They will far outgrip the stock tires.
If you're commuting they likely won't last all that long.
For $100 you should buy them and try em out. I have the Pilot Road 2's and I love them.

Waaaay different.
But Excellent just the same. [thumbsup]
I have the Pilot Road 2's as well, they will last longer than the Powers for commuting. [thumbsup]
another thumbs up for the road 2ct...........as long as they are the right size.
i have about 4500 miles on mine now, and they should last me through most of next summer as well.
Okay, okay... everyone says the Powers won't last long, but I beg to differ. My bike came with Pilot Powers, and the front lasted 12k, and the rear 9k. Mostly commuting, with the occasional weekend twisty adventure. The front still had life left in it. The rear still had life, but had started a flat spot that I was beginning to feel while cornering, so decided it was time to replace them both.
From what I've found previously on the board, this is pretty long life for ANY tire.
I put Power 2CT's on it, so I'm curious to see how they wear, as I think I could have stuck with the basic Powers for the type of riding I do, but it was a cheap upgrade.

Really depends on the surface you ride on. In Tallahasse florida, 5,000 miles +1300 miles of 2 days super slabbing on i95 = not as much wear as a new set of Pilot Powers in the streets of NYC, i barely got 6,000 out of them.
the front always has more life then the rear. I picked up a set of Pilot Road 2CTs. Im eager to put those on. I hear it last about 10k miles and the edges have the same grip as a pilot power!
Great tires!
I've been through 8 or 9 rears and three fronts. For the price you got em it doesn't matter if you commute on them.
They warm up fast, stick like glue and are good int the rain. [thumbsup]
LA
Wear on the back tire is largely dependant on the throttle. I average about 3.5K.
I don't know how a 696 compares to a S4Rs but I have the Pilot Powers on my #1 S4Rs and they are great for grip and if I hadn't picked up a shard of metal in my rear tire and had to replace it it would still be on the bike.
My front tire barely looks worn after 4500 miles. Dolph :)
Buy them. Now. I have a set on my S2R and have no complaints
