Title: O/T: Just something to consider this holiday season... Post by: duckwrench13 on December 26, 2008, 10:25:41 AM Regardless if you support the current administration, or any of the ongoing conflicts, please take a minute to remember our troops.
It's hard enough being in such a hellish place, and being there through the holidays is even worse. A little note, from a random person back here, was more than we could have ever hoped for some days. Just a reminder that folks were thinking of us. So take a few minutes, write a letter or send a card or small care package. It will make a world of difference to someone who has enough to worry about. For all the soldiers past, present, and still to come, Thank You. Title: Re: O/T: Just something to consider this holiday season... Post by: Spidey on December 26, 2008, 10:31:22 AM D, I routinely send stuff to friends who are serving, but haven't ever sent anything off to random service members or units. Is there a particular organization or way of sending stuff to random servcemembers/units that you guys particularly liked or that you saw a bunch or was otherwise effective?
Title: Re: O/T: Just something to consider this holiday season... Post by: duckwrench13 on December 26, 2008, 10:34:08 AM I can dig out some of my old letters and get the APO off of them. Things can be sent to the Chaplain's Office at the camps, and the Chaplains can distribute them to the soldiers.
All the local VFW, etc, have support programs and mailing info as well. I can also look into the logistics of it all, and maybe we could get a MOB mailing organized. I know there's a bunch of Ducatistas out there... heck, I found y'all while I was in Kandahar! Title: Re: O/T: Just something to consider this holiday season... Post by: Charlief on December 26, 2008, 12:32:27 PM I have an address that I send all my old magazines to.. Car and Driver, maxim, Cycle, Sport rider, the wifes Glamour( yes they have women over there).
Just remember.. no skin magazines. if one is in the bunch they could toss your whole pile out. I use the post office flat rate box and load it up. Cost is around $10. I hope this addy is still current! I just mailed some stuff last week. USO Kuwait Camp Wolverine APO AE 09336 I've been doing it for a couple of years now. Hope this helps. Title: Re: O/T: Just something to consider this holiday season... Post by: ducati_tim on December 30, 2008, 08:04:00 AM There are many ways to support the troops with care packages. Probably the easiest way is through the USO https://www.uso.org/donate/custom.aspx?id=730& (https://www.uso.org/donate/custom.aspx?id=730&)
Another organization is http://www.treatsfortroops.com/ (http://www.treatsfortroops.com/) More good methods can be found at http://www.ehow.com/how_4543338_books-care-packages-soldiers-overseas.html (http://www.ehow.com/how_4543338_books-care-packages-soldiers-overseas.html) |
