Title: Superbike fender rubbing?
Post by: JTMOTO on January 03, 2009, 08:18:22 AM
748 fender rubs bad on the back side.  Is this normal or a bad fender?  Anyone have fitment issues with thes in the past?  Just installed it last night. and went to walk it backwards and heard the rubbing. This is what I bought

that seems new to me.

is it only rubbing on that very rear corner of the fender? you could always grind it down.

of course, taking much care when grinding CF (wear a respirator!)

I'd say bad part.

If that's how much you paid, you should return it and spend a bit more for a quality part.

FYI: The back portion of the 1098 front fender looks cleaner. IMO

Yeah I knew it was too good to be true.  But the quality is good other than fitment.  Nice carbon.

Hey, even DP carbon is crap 50% of the time.  If you have faith in them, you could try another one...but I wouldn't.  ;)

JT i've fitted a couple of the replacement carbon fiber front mud guards on that model with on problem so check the width of your tyre and if thats the normal fitment size i should return the mud guard to the vendor for replacement.
It looks on the photo that the moulding is out of shape.

Is it that close/rubbing on both sides?

You could try adjusting the position with the bolts just a little more than finger tight, then carefully tightening the bolts to maintain the correct position....if you've got room on the other side.

Otherwise, exchange for another.

The wheel rotates into that  edge, if it were to catch and dig in the result could be dangerous. I'd want much more clearance.
