Title: DP tailbag needs softer bottom to go on top of cowl - suggestions?
Post by: stopintime on May 12, 2008, 03:03:45 PM
Touring with a tail bag is usually done without the cowl, right? I want to have the cowl on the bike 8)
The DP tail bag will strap on fine, but I need it to be softer so it won't scratch the paint, especially where the front straps will go over the edge of the cowl. Bottom of the DP tail bag is a plastic surface - not very soft.
I'm thinking of some soft material which I might glue on to the bottom of the tail bag. They will need to have some kind of wings which will extend over the side of the cowl.
Thoughts or suggestions?

Here is what I do:

1) wash n wax the cowl
2) put down some Press N Seal (http://www.glad.com/plasticwrap/pressnseal.php (http://www.glad.com/plasticwrap/pressnseal.php)) on the cowl
3) a piece of that rubber non skid rug mat

voila!  No scratches

I rode for a few years with a tank bag almost continuously.  I put a large piece of felt cloth between the tank and the bag and had great results preventing the paint from getting scratched.  This was with a magnetic bag so it stands to reason that your bag must be sufficiently 'adhesive' to pull this off.  Strapped bags should have no problem.

Just go to the store and buy the non-skid drawer liner stuff... Similar to what some grocery stores put their fruit on...  Also found in tool chest drawers.

I just ordered this tail bag from Aerostich; I'll post a review when I get and use it... It has a rubberized backing to protect the cowl...

At the moment I can't access Ducati.com to post a link, but in my "Accessories 2008" catalogue it's on page 223 in the multi fit section.
Part # is 967290 AAA
