Not a Nikon? I've been toying with the idear of getting a D40, but I keep spending my dough on other stuff. Yeah it's a Nikon, Mom doesn't know what he's talking about. As for the D40, I've been told it's the dog of Nikon, and a D60 is well more worth your time. Title: Re: Started up a photo website Post by: duccarlos on January 08, 2009, 12:49:41 PM Can I make a request? More schoolgirl outfit pics. But please, you wearing the outfit, not your SO.
Title: Re: Started up a photo website Post by: cloud2blue on January 08, 2009, 01:58:28 PM The Nikon D90 is a very nice camera. I've been trying to scrap enough together for a Canon 5D, which is the one with the full size chip. They're sooo expensive, but I sooo want one.
You mention wanting critique, but with only 3 it's hard to say much yet. I like the color balance in the oranges shot and the use of depth of field in the oranges shot and the dog close-up. I feel your composition might be just a little off. The great thing about a still life is it won't move so you can really concentrate on composition and they are great practice. The most important thing is to take as many shots as possible. You learn something from each and every shot. I had an instructor once have us take an everyday object and take 100 different shots of it. I might have a book or 2 on the subject of composition. Most of my book are for film, not stills, but if I find anything pertinent I'll bring it over on Sunday. Have fun with your new toy. I mostly wanted to capture personality with the dog and with Mo's pic. I bought a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It seems to be pretty good so far. Title: Re: Started up a photo website Post by: marvellous on January 09, 2009, 09:31:38 AM I miss my old Canon AE-1 from college... maybe get another camera one of these days...... heh

Title: Re: Started up a photo website Post by: canoncrazy on January 12, 2009, 08:23:16 AM babies on their stomachs make for interesting subjects between 3-8 months. try some of those, open the aperture to 2.8, or widest open setting so the make-shift background isn't in focus, move subject away from backround as well. don't be afraid to dump light on one side (spot light or work light), try dramatic lighting, then put a white card on the opposite side of the child to "bounce" the light and see what you get. 100 photos of each subject, holy crap! bound to learn something from that! post more pics, happy to critique :) have fun!
