Title: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: hooligan machinist on May 12, 2008, 03:06:23 PM I bought my wife a 80GB ZUNE for mothers day. Yaay for me right??
I can't get the MF'N software to install!! >:( The damn thing didn't come with a disc, you have to download and install from the website. I got it downloaded but it won't install. Says i'm missing windows updates. I went thru the updates and got everything i am supposed to have but still no install. >:( >:( Any ideas? Howard Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: c_rex on May 12, 2008, 03:08:44 PM did you reboot after you did your updates? just setup my wife's and had to do the updates first. then reboot before anything would happen. Also- make sure you've got your Zune connected and that it's recognized by your pc.

Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: hooligan machinist on May 12, 2008, 03:53:54 PM Well, i tried the reboot, again. Still have the same issue. Also, when i plug it in, nothing happens. Originally it popped up as new hardware but couldn't find matching software.
The error message says (please upgrade your media center machine to 2005 with update 2 or later). FWIW, i'm running Windows xp media center edition. Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: c_rex on May 12, 2008, 04:43:21 PM So, you're the two guys who bought them. I've been wondering who they were... ;) My wife got hers free from work. I'm all about the Samsung, baby. I don't dig the way the Zune rams DRM down your pie hole. Try this hm: <You need to install update 900325. Yeah I know you already updated but...> Note To install this update, you must have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installed. Windows Update detects whether these packages are installed. Windows Update automatically installs these packages for you. If the 886904 update is installed, you must uninstall the 886904 update before you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Otherwise, the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installation will not succeed. To determine whether the 886904 update is installed, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK. 2. Click to select the Show Updates check box. 3. In the Currently installed programs list, look for the following item: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904) If this item appears, you must remove the hotfix. To remove the hotfix, click Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904), and then click Remove. Then, visit the Windows Update Web sit to download and install Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. You'll probably want to uninstall 900325 too if you've already pulled it down. Then run Update again to download or go to Download Center and pull down KB900325 and install it for yourself. I make no guarantees on this because the WinXP MCE shell is a bit different than standard WinXP which I make my wife run. I'm running Vista atm and as I said- not big into the DRM. If you still run into issues get back to me and I'll see what I can do to help. I can also post your issue at an alias we have at work (take a guess) where folks have reported any number of quirks with the Zunes. I'll bet someone has seen this issue already. Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: hooligan machinist on May 12, 2008, 05:23:29 PM I got the software installed finally. Still doesn't auto start or even notice that the zune is plugged in.
In other words, it won't sync. Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: hooligan machinist on May 12, 2008, 05:40:29 PM HA!! I got it.
Had to reinstall the driver. She's a workin now. [thumbsup] Thanks for the help Howard Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: He Man on May 12, 2008, 06:21:28 PM I got the software installed finally. Still doesn't auto start or even notice that the zune is plugged in. In other words, it won't sync. there used to be in a setting in the old zune software that made the program pop up when the zune is plugged in. Mine doenst pop up automatically neither, its annoying casue i just wanan charge it 99% of the time. As far as syncing goes, you have to direct it to seek out the folders you want the zune to sync too. on the lower left side is a pic of the device or computer, depending on what mode your in. Alternatively ( i would recommend against it) you can get to settings and set it to auto sync. Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! Post by: c_rex on May 12, 2008, 06:32:09 PM He Man- why for you no likey the Auto Sync? I didn't know any better so just set my wife's up to do this so I wouldn't have to try and figure it out again later. Cheers.

And if i got that on my zune, it would be impossible to find the stuff i actually do listen to. Title: Re: ZUNE users...........Help a brotha out! And if i got that on my zune, it would be impossible to find the stuff i actually do listen to. Ah- cheers for that. It seemed to put everything in logical folders (albums) with pictures for most every album no less. But then again I just dump mine in a big bucket on my player. I've tried everything i know, to no avail. Is it possible to create a playlist in Media Player and send it to the Zune? It says to drag and drop but that only seems to work for files already on the device. |
