That was a good movie. Much like Grand Get Off My Lawn, not much complexity to the plot, but a lot of dimensions to the characters. I have always liked Mickey Rourke -he did a really good Henry Chinaski in Barfly- and always hoped he would start making better movie choices. This definitely was one.
Marissa Tomei does another really solid job, one, and is nude, two. Not much to dislike about that.
My man, he just won the Golden Globe for best actor. [clap]

word..
good for him he deserved it IMO
nice to see humans make comebacks
Just now catching Rourke on Graham Norton tonight talking about the movie.
I really hate professional wrestling and because of this I almost didnt go see this movie since I didnt really know what it was about. What a mistake that would have been. This was one of the best films Ive seen this year, the character development was excellent. It was well written and the setting was perfect. Marissa's scenes are nice plus [thumbsup]

I think I'll make it a double feature and go see this with Grand Torino!
BTW..watching Rourke on Graham Norton was funny at first but got uncomfortable and embarrasing as the show went on. He wouldn't stop in his pursuit to get into Jessica Beil's pants! Which, I'm sure most men wouldn't but I don't know what's so great about her? I find Marrisa Tomei more attractive than Jessca!
the director of this film is from a few blocks away from my neighborhood in bklyn... oh FYI hes also doing teh remake of "robocop" as well as a film called "the fighter" with mark whalberg playing irish mickey ward

yea but he'll put a interesting spin on it
Mickey was once thought to be the next Marlon Brando. He did loose interest in the kind of movies he was making and had an interest in Boxing so he pursued it. Actually won many fights and at one time had 7 1st round knockouts.
He had his nose broken and his cheekbone also. Someone thought that besides having a nose job that he have cheek implants and a chin implant too.
The Pope of Greenwich Village was a cool movie , but he made many , many more besides 9 1/2 weeks that most know about . Bar Fly, Rumble Fish, Sin City, Domino, Angel Heart, Desperate Hours, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man and Wild Orchid. Those are just one's I've seen.
The dude was a very good actor and maybe still is . I haven't seen" The Wrestler " yet. I can't talk the g/f into seeing it.
Mickey could have been " great, " but the Demons got him. Dolph

I watched Barbara Walters interview with Mickey. He said in his meltdown, it wasn't drugs or alcohol that did it, but personal demons. Definitely an interesting actor. I liked him in sin city.
mitt
marissa tomei is from my neighborhood as well as the director darron aranofsky [thumbsup]
btw mickeys right about eric roberst, they were great together in pope of greenwich village
I found it a tad bit depressing.
it was hard to get into the faux-documentary style of the story at first...
The material was fresh enough to be worth a viewing, though!

I can't remember the last time I saw a movie with a performance that affected me like that. Wow.
+1 for Tomei. Nude or not, she is hot. And her performance was outstanding too.
We saw it on Friday evening, and to be honest we just couldn't see what all the praise was about. I was really looking forward to seeing it, perhaps my expectations were a bit high, but I personally found the movie to be too anticlimactic and predictable. The most touching scene was of course one shown in the previews with him admitting his mistakes to his daughter. However, aside from the obvious 'hurt' of both his real life and that of a wrestlers', we weren't all that impressed. Marrissa's role could have had much more impact and offered more depth to the story if so much of the filming hadn't focused on the "misunderstood stripper with a heart of gold" aspect.
On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a solid 7.5
:-\
But on the flip side, way to go on making a comeback! [thumbsup]
I saw it at a preview screening in Georgetown with a a Q&A after with Tomei and Aronofsky. It was weird to see Tomei in person after seeing so much of her in the movie.....
