Title: Turn Signal Blink Speed Question
Post by: ArabicaMan on January 10, 2009, 08:08:36 PM
So today, I finished installing my Ducati Performance front turn signals on my 2007 S4Rs; they look wonderful and really clean up the front of the bike.  But here's on odd thing: the right turn signal flashes a bit slower than the left.  (And to further add to the mystery, the two DP signals on the back flash at the same speed as the right signal, so only the left-front is speedy.)  Obviously this in no way affects how well they work (and it's not like the two signals are ever on at the same time), but I wonder:  What controls the speed at which a turn signal flashes?  Is this something intrinsic to the signal itself, just the way the bike is wired (and thus may have done it all along), or could this be something with the way I installed the signals?  Inquiring minds want to know.  Thanks for your thoughts.

that is odd. I was thinking this was going to be the normal "my LEDs are super blinky" question. turns signals are plug n'play, so it's possible your bike is just wonky like that

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it  ;)

Does it flash faster or just with shorter flashes? Isn't the speed dependent on the resistance of also the bulb? If so, try another bulb or interchange two bulbs maybe. Could there be a pinched/unisolated wire somewhere causing this?

Just some thoughts :) from the nonexpert - I might be way off......

UPDATE:  Okay, I figured it out.  Basically, the root cause is that I'm an idiot.  The background is, at the same time I'm working on the front, I'm also working on the rear of the bike (installing DP signals and a DP short tail).  I was in the process of rewiring the rear turn signals at the same time as the first, and the connection for the rear-left signal had come unwired.  This coincidentally is the same side as the fast-blinking signal at the front.  Wire up the rear, the juice is distributed, and voila...no more fast-blinking front signal.  So I'll reiterate the root cause: I'm an idiot.  Jeepers...   [bang]

Cheers.

It's so much easier to be me, when I have confirmation that others are idiots too [laugh] [thumbsup]

Maybe a specific board for us? "Idiots only" 8)
