Question: I'm wondering what the handling differences are from an earlier M900 w/ the loop supported swingarm vs. the newer M900sie. I was told the older 900 era monsters handle better (sport riding) that the later injected ones. Is this true? The earlier 1st monster frame was derived from the 851/888 and the newer inj. one had the ST frame from what I understand. I'm looking for the sportiest handler. Is there a difference? Assume all have the adj. Showa forks.
Also, how does the S2R1000 handle compared to either earlier monster? It must sit higher? I think I saw it is 6lb lighter than the M1000 overall. I prefer the M1000's looks/ power.
I'm coming from a '99 750ss (not great- un-adj. forks) and previous '95 900ss-sp (excellent handler w/ the Gold Valves & Showa adj forks). I'm ready to make the switch to a monster, but want one that handles well in the twisties. Other than having the obvious adjustible forks, which monster handles best?
thanks,
my experiences are with my old 01 M900 and my still in posession 98 M900 and even though they have the same suspension style...I'd say my 98 handles wickedly better due to the fact that I've had the forks redone and new fully adjustable rear shock that is sprung and set properly for me for track usage...there was a specific mush in the 01 that slowed things down a lil, but I used it to my advantage because I knew what to expect and how to play off of it...
so what I am saying bottom line is, know your machine and it's limits, or get it reset for you suspension wise...
and as a side note, am leaning more seriously at the idea of selling my 98 track monster 900 in the idea of upgrading in power...
