As previously discussed, I am proud to announce
the ruin of my houseer...
I am hosting West Coast DIMBY, which is going to ROCK!  (Be there or SUCK.)
Official start time:  Saturday, April 25, 2009, 10:30amMeet at: 15434 Doris Ct., Moorpark, CA 93021
Friday (Optional and Tentative, basically we wing it):
Anyone that wishes to arrive early is welcome to join in the fun Friday night with pizza, beer, and movies, however LIMITED ACCOMMODATIONS ARE AVAILABLE so book early [by PM-ing me], bring a sleeping bag (and/or tent) and hope you find a place to sleep.
Saturday [Tentative Schedule]:
O-Dark-Thirty: Breakfast will be served at my place prior to riding out for anyone here and hungry...for [bacon] &  [coffee].  There will also be a briefing at 10:15am on the ride for the day.  Ride starts at 10:30, ready or not.   [moto]  We're headed up Ojai way and we'll be stopping for lunch there, with waypoints in between, of course.  Then back to my place for BBQ, Booze,
Live Music, the Bacon Olympics, and
Drunken Debauchery...er...good clean fun, until the wee hours.
Sunday [again, Tentative Schedule, depending upon hangover status]:
Breakfast ride departs at 9:30-ish or so...kinda...[no breakfast provided at my house, folks].  Short ride to breakfast, longer rides after or head out from there.  No overnight lodging available--I'm a college student now and have school on Monday.  Seriously...   [cheeky]
ALSO, prizes given for:   [bow_down]
- Furthest distance riden to arrive at WCDIMBY '09
 - Prettiest Monster
 - Ugliest Monster
 - Best Non-Monster
 - Best Gear (look sexy now!)
 - Winner of Bacon Olympics

[bacon]
To assist in covering breakfast, BBQ, Bacon Olympics, beer, the cost of the prizes, utilities, "disturbing the peace", and other infractions, please feel free to donate what you can upon arrival.  Driveway/Back Yard parking is available for up to 35 bikes.  Back and front yards available for tents.
Local to SoCal & an experienced rider?  PM me, dammit!  I need help!   [laugh]  BBQ chef, ride leaders and sweepers, bacon chef, etc., etc. (tbd).
One more thing: MUST LOVE DOGS AND CATS.  I have 3 dogs and 2 cats.  If you're allergic, man up and get a shot.   ;D
See you all there!
 [thumbsup]

SATURDAY ROUTE!Starting from Rivers' place @ 10:30 (which means btw that we're LEAVING then...  Plan on being here @ 10am to check your bike over, prep your gear and attend the mandatory ride briefing.)
We'll be taking the 23 towards Fillmore breaking off on some smaller roads which become South Mountain Road into Santa Paula.
After a small meet-up and helmet count, we're off up the 150 to Ojai & Guy Websters Museum ( [moto] ).
This route should take us an hour (+/- 5min) so that will put us at Guy's around 11:30am.  This portion of the ride is about 40 miles.
We're having lunch brought to Guy Websters from a local sub shop (likely Jersey Mike's) so we'll eat there and talk motos and such.
After museum-ing and eating and froliking like school children (Hi bobspapa!) until around 1pm-ish, we're off to  [moto] again after gassing up.
Up the amazing 33 north for roughly 40 miles to Lockwood Valley Road.  There's a ranger station nearby with a large parking lot where we'll regroup and take 10 to rest our buns.  We should be to the ranger station around 2pm btw.  The 33 is an amazing road with breath-taking vistas if you haven't done it...  From there, we'll take Lockwood Valley Road into Frazier Park which is about 34 miles.  We'll gas up in Frazier Park & begin the return leg of the trip.  We should be into Frazier Park nearing 3pm.
We're on the Super-suck-slab US 5 (yuk!  :P) for 4 miles (no other route) and then we break off onto the 138 towards Palmdale, over to Pine Canyon road for 18 miles and then a right turn on Lake Hughes road for another 22.  We get back onto the super-suck 5 for 3 miles until we exit onto the 126 (nice winding 4-lane hwy) for 19 miles and then back onto the 23 towards Moorpark.  All told, it will be a long day but we'll be making gas, restroom, and break-stops to well break it up...
A detailed printed copy of the route with notes (cow grates, stream fjordings, etc) will be provided @ the ride briefing meeting (that's why it's mandatory) so don't fret it if the above seems a touch vague...
Riders will be broken up into two groups (possibly 3 if we have a HUGE turnout).  The 'A' group will go first and will run a bit more of a brisk pace but keep in mind that these are public roads and that while riding the route yesterday, we encountered farm equipment, semi's blocking the road, patches of road replaced by gravel, streams that had to be fjorded, rocks, gravel, silt, lane closures, stupids in cages,  [leo]'s, wild animals, and a small brush fire on the side of the road.
The 'B' groups will go after the 'A' group by about 10 minutes so as not to bunch up.  'B' group will run a more mellow pace but will still average slightly over the speed limit.
Riders are free to choose the group they want to ride in, but ULTIMATELY YOU are responsible for your safety, carrying proper insurance, riding within your own limits, making sure you don't run out of gas, your bike is in good working order, etc...  Total Saturday mileage will be around 210 miles BTW.
Any ride you return from safely is a good one and we really want to have a good ride!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUNDAY ROUTE!Sunday is an optional ride depending on how nutty-coo-coo we get Saturday night...
Leave River's house whenever really (no set time) and head out on the 118 slab out till it dead-heads into the 210 (this is a 26 mile freeway slab ride).  Turn east (right) onto the 210 freeway to the Sunland Blvd exit.  Down about a mile to Oro Vista and turn LEFT (there's a 7-11 on the corner).  Oro Vista becomes Big Tujunga Canyon Rd and you go about 12 miles on that to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Rd (or 9-mile as it's called).  Turn right onto Upper-Big-T go for 9-miles of bliss to Angeles Crest Highway (the 2).  Turn left onto the 2 and head to Newcombs Ranch Inn for B'fast/lunch/what-have-you.  This is about a 65 mile one-way trip but I haven't mapped it all out yet.  You'll likely need gas in Sunland as if you run out on the 'hill'...yer screwed!
After that, you're free to ride wherever...Pro Italia is nearby in Glendale if you want to check those guys out.  There are also a few other side-routes you could take on the way back to River's...  (Santa Susana Pass is a good quick one...)  It's basically open from there.

I did this on a moto trip once. I had the shipper (Aim Mail Center) print me a return ticket and he scheduled the pick up at the hotel for me. So I just repacked it, taped it closed, put the return ticket on the box, and left it at the hotel check in counter. It was home before I was.

				Hi All!
Thanks for posting up.  You've got the rules for shipping stuff to and from my place.  I have lawn/sleeping space reservations for everyone who has posted or PM'd so far.  I have 2.5 baths and I'll work out a use schedule for showers for those who want one...or who are asked to please take one.   ;D
DuckStu is contacting Guy Webster (apparently he's met him before) to see about setting up some time to go through his museum on the way through Ojai.  Great idea!
As for bikini jello wrestling...I really don't know what to say about that.  "I'm not responsible for any injuries or harassment issues arising from this activity," comes to mind.   ;D  Seriously, I'm not.
Let me know if any of you have any other ideas we might incorporate.  I appreciate your support.  See you all here!   [thumbsup]

Suggestion:  Jello wrestling sounds fun and all; but at a more practicle level; and not to be overstepping the bounds of being a guest and all; but a hot tub is always fun; and maybe it was the previous pics of one; I'v been to yard party where they've rented one; I'll chip in (5$/person?)... or maybe you have one already?!  Just a thought. [popcorn]

				Hi all!
Here's the update:
We are starting to get ramped up for the big affair.  I don't have an answer on the motorcycle museum in Ojai yet but am confident that it will be one of our waypoints on the big ride.  I have also started logging requests for camping/sleeping space and so far, so good.  (Yes, I'm a geek with an Excel spreadsheet.  Sue me.  ;D)
Just to clarify a few points:
*If we run out of space you'll either need to a) find someone with a sleeping bag who is willing to share with you, or b) find another place to stay.
I will ask for a final head count around March to make sure we are going to be okay on space and let you know if you need to find another place to hang.  I'm keeping tabs on a first-come first-served basis.
*Please make sure you get your bikes and gear checked out prior to heading to my place.  (Yes, I've been accused of sounding like my mother.   :o)  I know it sounds like a silly request that goes without saying, but I'm just sayin'...
*Also, please be aware that this is an ADULT party.  You must be at least 18 or older to attend.  This is mainly because I don't want to get arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor...or for any other reason, for that matter.

I'm keen on the west coast road trip idea, but I'm not necessarily comitted due to work.  I'll have to see what my schedule is like by mid March.  After some consideration of distance ... some 2000 miles ... I may trailer the duc in a 6X10, that could accomidate at least 1 more if not 2 bikes depending on how they were loaded ... then again ... I could be convinced to go the distance on a Duc but would be avoiding the interstates ....one pm reminded me that superslabbing is no fun ....
... suggestions; intrested parties, let me know .... Cheers Dave

Well some of us have bikes that would require a tire change after that many freeway miles (especially IZ).  Plus we need tents, sleeping bags, clothes, beer, etc.  This is a bike transport and tent in one.  The freeway ride is boring and tiresome on a sport bike.  These aren't Harleys.  Riding the twisties is what we want to do.

... difficult to mount saddle bags with the high mounts ... like on a bicycle; you really want to get the weight as low as possible; a heavily weighted backpack is not good; A)- its tiring; I try to avoid a backpack at all costs B) it makes you top heavy C) it restricts your shoulder movements; not saying I have an answer here; with you pipe setup your limited as to how you can load; I have a tailbag that would work with your setup and you might be able to get rid of the backpack ... or use FedEx; it would be worth it ...

.... and the reality is that after an all day ride on a duc I'm tiered and sore .... so to ride down on a super slab; ride the next day and ride home very tiered and hug  .... hummm ... Yeah, that's why I went the backpack route... Damn high mounts!  [roll]  ;D
I actually didn't have much weight in the pack, just an ultralight tent and a change of clothes.  This was my first ever overnight trip, and my longest time spent on the bike at that point.  (i had been riding for just under a year at that point.)  Still, for a n0ob like me, I didn't find it too constricting.  Then again, I didn't know any better!   ;)
The pack is a Lowe Alpine Mountain Attack ND40.  It's designed for freedom of movement through the shoulders.  It's meant to be worn while climbing vertical - near vertical rock or ice.  REALLY Comfortable, but I wouldn't be wearing it for a spirited day trip through the twisties.
What tail bag do you have? I'm interested! [thumbsup]

I am down to two cans of pea soup, so it is time for another trip out to Buellton.
A side trip to Moonpark would work.

Lowen pack sounds good; I'v worn packs on my bike and perfer to go nude so to speak.
Tail bag is an inexpensive Crotec; not the best quality but its expandable and the right price; I use it with a cargo net overtop; the zippers are knowen to open and arnt the best quality; its compatable with there sport saddlebags that work with an 03 800 DSS; you might be able to get some saddle bag frames made for your highmounts.  The whole setup was about 160 and works for a weekends worth of camping stuff.  I'll see if I can find more detailed info; wish I had a pic to share.  When rolling you wouldnt know the bags were there.  Cheers Dave

It turns out that I only have a couple of absolute rules I go by and one of them is to never post anything on the internet when my BAC is over 0.000000001%.  The night I made that post about it being bad form to be trailering or trucking bikes I'd been on the road all day in a car, was tired and got into the Demon Rum [drink].  It's really none of my business whether any one trailers their bike.

OK!  We're about a month away and we're in need of a head count.  Nothing terribly exact but something to base our purchases on.
(read as: we don't want to underpurchase beer & bacon.)
Also, if you haven't heard about the Bacon-Olympics, check it out here:

Post up if you're planning on attending and if you'll need room to pitch a tent here (yeah, yeah, yeah....no jokes about tent-pitching, K?).  [thumbsup]

Ok, the official *rough* time-frame (because we may deviate from it some not on purpose, but just 'cuz sh*t happens) will be posted up this weekend.
River and I will do the final rides and time them this time to get distances, plan out gas stops, and estimate times.  We've got it 80% figured out, just need to ice that cake.
Oh, and grandpa nate?!?  You may not be the oldest dude at DIMBY...  My friend Jim is going to show and he's 70.  He's also tenatively scheduled to bring his RC30 btw...

Hi guys!  As DS mentioned, he and I will actually ride the ride this weekend and get all the details sorted so that we have approximate times, distances, directions, waypoints, etc.  Those of you that are waiting for more detailed info will not have to wait much longer.  One of us will post by Monday night.
I am really excited and looking forward to seeing you all here!  Just to recap, for those of you coming:
Pizza and beer on Friday night
Breakfast at my place Saturday morning  [bacon]  [coffee]  [bacon] that will include a ride briefing
Big ride on Saturday, including a private viewing of Guy Webster's motorcycle "museum" in Ojai (thanks to you, Duck-Stew  [thumbsup])
Quick lunch in the Ojai area (probably at Jersey Mike's or the like)
Relax and BBQ Saturday afternoon/evening
BACON OLYMPICS
Live music Saturday evening--come on, who doesn't love live music?
Camping, hanging out, telling stories and lies, and hopefully not destroying my house... :o
Optional ride up ACH (Angeles Crest Hwy) Sunday morning, breakfast and happy farewells
A FEW IMPORTANT THINGS:
1. I'm asking for donations upon arrival to cover expenses (everything from food and booze to bands and possibly bribes for cops (and two of my neighbors are feds so please keep that in mind)...)
2. We'll order lunch on Saturday ahead of time and the approximate cost per head will be $10, so please have cash handy for that.
3. Bacon Olympics: Dude, sign up for this, because I'm looking forward to it for sheer entertainment value!   [laugh]
4. Sunday morning everyone is on their own for breakfast, but we'll be riding out earlier to a place where breakfast is readily available.  Though, as a coffee drinker, I wouldn't be so cruel as to deny you your morning wake up juice at my house prior to departure.  The rules of hospitality dictate such... ;D
I think that's it for the moment.  PM me or Duck-Stew if you have any questions or comments.  One of us will post again around Monday (April 20) regarding the route.  Looking forward to seeing you all here!!!
 [thumbsup]

I always wear full gear, including riding boots.  Yes, they're a little awkward to get around in, but they'll do.  Or if you think you'll need them, strap some walking shoes on your bike somewhere.  Just my two cents.

Have fun and ride safe all.

Irish Car Bomb recipe
Irish Car Bomb is one of the most popular drinks worldwide. The ingredients are simple and widely available, and beer lovers will almost certainly enjoy it. If you ask for one of these in an Irish pub you'll be greeted with either a smile, or a black eye. Enjoy!
Serve in Beer Mug
Scale ingredients to   servings
3/4 pint Guinness® stout
1/2 shot Bailey's® Irish cream
1/2 shot Jameson® Irish whiskey
Add the Bailey's and Jameson to a shot glass, layering the Bailey's on the bottom. Pour the Guinness into a pint glass or beer mug 3/4 of the way full and let settle. Drop the shot glass into the Guinness and chug.
If you don't drink it fast enough it will curdle and increasingly taste worse.Forgot to add the [puke] [puke]

				ALMOST THERE!
SOME IMPORTANT LOGISTICS: I have a current head count of 50 for the ride.  (Trouble, silentbob, sorry you guys are missing this!)  We'll have lunch brought in from Jersey Mike's: an assortment of sandwiches (some with BACON), chips and a cookie.  I also have a few veggie sandwiches for you non-meat-eaters, and water for everyone.  The cost of lunch is $10 per person.  I'll collect the money from you guys either right before we ride out or once we get to Guy Webster's place.  The cost of lunch is separate from the cost of everything else, and anything you guys could chip in to help defray those expenses is greatly appreciated!   [thumbsup]
Those of you staying at my place be warned: we may have some interesting sleeping arrangements.  I know one of you is borrowing my tent.  I also have a blow up mattress and 2 sleeping bags.  Maybe we should have a contest of some kind to see who gets those...   [evil]  Anyway, we'll get it all sorted out when we get back to my place so no worries.
We're almost ready for you!  Looking forward to meeting you all in person/seeing you again and riding with you tomorrow!   [moto]

Not sure where all everyone else went, but Stu & I met up w/Lori, Rick, Wesley & Ryan @ the Rock Store around 11am, hung out, then ran Encinal Canyon to PCH. Stu & I broke off from there & headed north, headed back toward Camarillo off PCH, & bombed down the 101 so I could get to work. Gorgeous day!  [thumbsup]Maybe Ryan or Wesley can fill you in on the rest of their ride.   ;D

Rick Headed up the "Snake"  with Mike to destroy tires on Latigo a few times, and, as mentioned, we ran down Encinal to the PCH.  Said goodbye and thank you to Duck-Stew and River, then headed south to catch up with Rick and Mike at Coffee Bean.   From there, Rick, Lori, and Westley Headed back to Venice to watch MotoGP, and I headed up Topanga to Old Topanga, then down to the 101 to meet some friends at another BBQ.

				By the way,
