Title: Changing Instrument panel / Dash???
Post by: tricolore on January 13, 2009, 04:10:10 AM
Can anybody tell me if you can just swap a dash panel / cluster on a late model bike? Does it mess with the security etc? I am considering a project bike which needs a new dash (damaged). Its not a Duc, similar heritage though. I Have read plenty of threads about changes under warranty but no changes outside warranty.
I have located a instrument cluster at a reasonable price but not sure if you can just plug and play?
Just doing some homework ATM...
Cheers, Steve.

Ducati have swapped them under warranty repairs/work. But again, like Bazz said, its not a straight over swap you can do yourself. Programming has to be done due to the immobilisers. - Chris

Is that where the red "special" key is used?

+1 and a few other things, like K's matching etc. Can I ask why? Are you looking into changing the cluster, is it broken? - Chris

i was under the impression the red key could program a new ECU (like a D/P one) to the guage cluster and existing keys but if the guages needed replacing you had to replace the lot.

paul.
p.s, it's not a duke anyway, so unless we know what it is and someone has knowledge about that particular bike we're all guessing about it anyway.
