Title: New Dash / Instrument panel - Plug and play or not???
Post by: tricolore on January 13, 2009, 04:16:13 AM
Can anyone tell me if you can replace an instrument cluster/ Dash on a late model bike without messing with the security? I am looking into a possible project bike, MV F4, and its a wreck, the dash needs to be replaced and I can get a 2nd hand one but not sure if I can just plug the new one in and it will work??? Any info would be appreciated. Doing some homework ATM...
Cheers.

IIRC, the immobilizer is in the dash so you can't just swap it out. I know someone on here swapped dashes on a monster w/ an immobilizer and stashed the circuit board for the stock dash under the tank so that everything would still work properly. I think it was Stu but I can't remember whose bike he did it on.

Oh wait, just re-read your post and realized you're not tinkering on a monster. Ignore me.  [cheeky]

Uh, not to be a jerk, but have you tried the MV Augusta forums?

If it's anything like a Ducati and the immobilizer work with a combo of the instruments and the ECU. For Ducati there are aftermarket ($$$) ECU reprogramming kits that get rid of the immobilizer completely.

But again, without knowing anything about how an MV is set up...
