you'll have to give more info. where did you hear this? have you checked with your dealer? is it all 696s or just early production?

Isn't this the coil issue?
Paint on the exhausts?? Even if there was, how would that effect performance enough to merit a full system replacement? Now if the metal is chipping away for some reason, that would make more sense. I got 6k on mine, no issues...

replacing them w/termi's?
hmmm i'm gonna have to look VERY VERY hard for those chips. i want my free Termis
Nope, nothing to do with the coil issue.
2nd hand info. My husband called our local dealer yesterday to schedule an oil change on his 848. The service guy remembered that I also had a 696 and said there was a recall on the 696. The inside of the cans is painted a matte black and the paint was chipped/flaking when it came out of the crate. This was the case with my bike and 2 other 696's that I saw on the floor (all '09 models back in August). Coincidentally, this is also present on DH's 848 but there was no mention of changing his. Strictly cosmetic and to me, nothing that warrants a new exhaust system - maybe a little spray of matte? Anyhow...
My husband's understanding was that they were replacing the entire stock can. Granted, service dude is francophone and maybe there was a complete communication gap happening there. Obviously no bulletin is out on this and nobody else is savvy, so I'll just let y'all know if I end up with a new set of termis. [cheeky] Not holding my breath. Cheers!
can't wait to hear how this turns out.
francophone = ?

It's a type of exhaust build for French bikes.
Their version of megaphones.

Meeee too. I'll let you know on Feb. 13th.
i hate to dig up old threads but... the paint on my stock cans is chipping too. What ever happened? was anything covered by the dealer?
Well...good idea to switch to Termis :)
I had the pleasure to ride one today at the track day, and as much I dislike the styling , the sound is awesome, even smoked the 848 next to it... [bacon]
so no one else is having this issue?
