Title: 749s Monoposto random check engine light
Post by: ilive41 on January 14, 2009, 11:29:00 AM
After warm-up the check engine light will sometimes come on at stop lights... maybe it's from being too hard on the brakes and the oil sloshing around?  It stay on until I get into first gear and often doesn't come on again during that ride.

Is this somewhat normal?  I know the 2003's have electrical kinks that we learn to deal with and wanna make sure it's just one of those things.

Hi, by the way.  I'm new.

Not normal.  Any symptoms?  The check engine light is set off by a computer input or output that is not within tolerance.  The easiest place to start is with a scan tool, either one of the Ducati tools or the aftermarket VDSTS software.  Or, if you are happy with the way the bike is running, ignore it.

The bike is running great, but I would rather know why it's coming on.  The only problem is that it rarely comes on and when it does it turns off once I start riding.  Could be a number of things and I realize that, but would a Ducati Scan Tool show past CEL issues or does the CEL need to be illuminated in order to identify the issue?

Your ECU does have the ability to store codes. Is there one stored?  Dunno.  If there is no code the tech would probably need to try and duplicate the situation with the DDS on it unless previous experience leads him/her to the problem.

pull the clutch all the way into the bars and it will stop happening.

Gotta ask!  Why does this cause the check engine light to illuminate?

I just noticed your new signature!  Congrats on your new venture [beer]
