Title: DiTR '09
Post by: Randimus Maximus on January 14, 2009, 04:59:01 PM
With the recent announcements of DIMBY AND WCDIMBY, please note that Ducatis in The Rockies (DiTR) will take place once again in Ouray, CO this year.

Details are far from final, but plan on a trip to "Switzerland of the Americas" sometime in August.

Right now, Rev. Millertime and myself have had preliminary talks.

I was going to hit a couple of the NMMR folks up for help, as you guys have had great representation the last couple years.

I'm certainly open to volunteers to help make DiTR '09 a huge success!!

Maybe this is a very feeble question, but, based on what I saw this last year, isn't picking a weekend & a base hotel the only decisions to be made ?

I hear trophies for distance traveled (on the bike)
"custom" bike
"how the hell did you make it here" (on that bike)
Etc...are good fun.    And God knows , some of us hackers can probably make some damn cool trophies.
But, other than some great roads, and more importantly, great friends. isn't that all this is about ?   [moto]  :) :)  [bacon]

Paying off the cops seems like it may also be a good thing to concider.            Vivaleduc. you still out there?

Points well taken, KB.

As mentioned, Rev & I have been discussing this behind the scenes (as it sounds like Ducmouse, DDGM & some SoCo folks have been too).

Here are my objectives:

Same fun time as has been had the last few years.
Some type of a group cookout on Saturday.
Fun awards for the group.

Here are the changes I would like to see:

As much as the Hot Springs Inn has been accomodating, I would like a hotel with a modern reservation system (i.e., some type of documentation that I have a room).  I would also like to suggest a hotel that is a little closer to town (those walks down the road at night can be brutal, so I've heard!  [evil] ).

Otherwise, it's pretty much up to everyone on getting there.

Let's have fun!!

careful, cuz when you poke em that much, they use their teeth.  they continue to look all warm and IZ_ and cuddly...then BAM, the teeth chew off the poking stick.

wow, have we hijacked the shit out of this thread.  [thumbsup]

OK, given that my moderator moderators will beat me for running this thread amuck...lets get back on topic.

Having stayed in a few different motels in the fine bustlin' town of Ouray, I see the pros and cons as follows:

Hotsprings Inn:
Pros:
Friendly, yet slightly mentally impaired staff
     Grills and multiple hottubs
     Parking and use of hoses
The beds are to die for[/li][/list]

Cons:
Half marathon distance from the bars
Continued mess up of reservations (see mental impairment note above)

Best Western:
Pros:
     Own hotsprings!  Hot tubs too
     Friendly staff
Not a bad location (not super close either though)

Cons:
Would need discount cuz rates are high
Not sure if they have a grill

Comfort Inn:
Pros:
Nice deck and hot tub (I think only one if I remember right)
     Friendly staff
Great location!  Stumbling distance to the bars.
     Good rates

Cons:
Dirt street (but paved parking)...though this might be a positive for Ducmouse as she can boot in the dirt and not have to clean.  [cheeky]
Not sure if they have a grill
     Slightly dated rooms

The AMA Women & Motorcycling conference is going on in Keystone from the 19-22nd.

http://www.womenandmotorcycling.com/womenc/index.asp (http://www.womenandmotorcycling.com/womenc/index.asp)]http://www.womenandmotorcycling.com/womenc/index.asp

Certainly, this may preclude some attendees due to time and budget constraints.

However, I'm wondering if DiTR were held the 14-16/17th, would some people travel in to double up on events in CO?

We're not trying to be a buncha' rebels...on this issue.       We had a great time last year ( small as it was).  I have no make the beast with two backsing idea how these group rallies work  [roll], but the rooms are heavenly.  I understand there were some issues with reservations. Those were easily fixed with a little communication (amazing how that works).   The town is 1/2ml long.       We will figure it out.

We're not trying to be a buncha' rebels...on this issue.

Are you kidding?

I had full intentions of taking that town by force, terrorizing the inhabitants with my rebel ways and building a harem with their young nubile daughters.

But of course, if you guys want wanna be all sedate and shit, I guess we can take it easy.  ;)

Title: Re: DiTR '09
Post by: ducducgooseme on March 20, 2009, 09:01:58 AM
Its not a rebel thing.  People posted up on the main DITR thread about where to stay and the majority of those that responded wanted to move to closer to town.  You, Ducmouse, were one of them.  They made calls, got group rates, etc etc....and now all of a sudden this group bags out on that.

Lame.  If you didnt want to be part of it, you should have said something when this was coming together.

I am off my soap box and dont care (I was smart enough to NOT volunteer for a thing this year)

Well, I guess I should have seen this comin' in my hindsight radar.  After my first post about a base hotel, trophies, friends & riding, I didn't think I had to stay where someone else had picked.  I understand two years ago there were some reservation issues, and that sucks. not to mention the nighttime land mine pot holes  [laugh]  Dusty & I opted for the "coma room" (vacation = relaxing) as have some others.  After being a part of putting on a couple of rallies with thousands of people, I can only hope for huge success, because this is as good as riding gets.  We can't wait to meet & hang out with new & old friends.
Sorry for the ruffle.  LET'S RIDE !

This might be a silly question:
What will prevent us from getting together regardless
of where we stay and still have a good time riding as a group...
Not to worry about the details ....let's just [moto]

Arrangements were made at the Best Western for a group rate.

We will be hosting a cookout there on Saturday.

It's closer to town.

If you guys really want to stay at the Hot Springs Inn, knock yourselves out.

I am truly disappointed that you logged off after you posted, hate shooting after someone turns their back .

I started to cut & paste some of your words, but the hole thing is priceless.

Congrats on your arrangements, cookout & closeness to town.  Knock yourself out.

We just wanted to... once again, ride, hangout & sleep in an amazingly comfortable room.  I don't remember anyone asking where I chose to lay my head at night  (not that it's anyones business).

This seems to have become a mute point, but less $ & I've stayed at both, no comparison.

Sorry I disappointed you.      I could have at least bought you a drink before huh ?

gentlemen, enough.

they merely wanted to get a good rate based on group discount.  period.    the point was that no one brought up the change until now, and it effected others.

we done yet?

Hey!  I know it's a moot point, but I'm still part of the NMMR and I'm keeping my reservation at the Best Western.  I know we talked about it last night and I said I might move to the Ouray Hotel where KRJ and Shannon were staying if the whole party was going to break up into separate places, but after mulling it over all the way home from Albuquerque, I decided that I definitely want to stay where the big group is.  The whole point is to rub elbows with other DMF'ers that are coming in from all over.  I hang out with my NMMR homies year-round so I don't want to go off to a corner and then just meet up with the others at dinner or the bar or on a group ride per chance.   The beds may be comfy at the Hotsprings, but honestly, I'd sleep in the parking lot to keep the same energy going that we had  a couple years back.  Wish it wasn't going down like this.  This isn't how DiTR started out.  It's getting as queer as last year which caused several key folks to pull out.   :'(

Thanks, guys!  I appreciate it.  It was great to see you.  Be safe on your ride today.  Thanks for the offers to ride one of your motorcycles, but I'm a one-bike woman.  The Paladin would know I'd been sitting in someone else's lap and would probably buck me off the next time I got on him.  If the Dragon had been available, I'd have gone on the ride.  The Paladin knows his place when it comes to the Dragon.   [cheeky]

Anybody interested in splitting a room for Ouray?  The website says all rooms are "double queen", which either means we all have to park two gays in each room, or each room has two queen sized beds.  I'm betting on the latter.

Does that mean Ratfink can't go, since there is no mention of (http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/sheepshag.gif) in the hotel description?

When do most of you plan to go up?  Do most folks ride up, or trailer?  Enquiring minds want to know!

It's $138.54 per night plus tax.  Go to the DiTR website for more details.  http://www.ducintherockies.com (http://www.ducintherockies.com)

Welcome back bubba.   [clap]
You can help by showing up.  Your personality & riding ability is more than enough. If you bring the other 2/3 of the crew...bonus!  A few of us are staying at the Hot Springs Inn (where we were last year), but the "main group" are staying at the Best Western I think (Dusty is past out or I would ask her).
As far as the dates go, Hell if I remember. This thread is so fragmented I can't even find it anymore.  I'm sure someones is on top of it all & will post soon.

This is kinda what I had in my mind.  Go up Friday morning, ride in the afternoon, then ride Saturday and Sunday and drive home Sunday evening.  Saves a rather expensive hotel night and a precious vacation day.  I asked earlier if anybody wanted to split a room and I think Punx Clever said he was in, but I want to confirm whether this schedule is cool ( for him or anybody else).

I was talking about this Friday as ABQ is going to be high 90s by Friday......but like everything else in my scattered mind....I forgot my store has been closed 2 saturdays in a row...hmmmmm...whats another saturday when Ouray is only 4 hours away...cool nights...amazing riding weather....(maybe I should check that) or stay home. Boy I'll tell ya...this weather just makes ya wanna split town and head north!  [thumbsup]

Where are you staying?

Hotels in the area are pretty pricey, huh?  I haven't made reservations.  Can anybody COMMIT to a split?  If so, do you have a preference for location?  Both Best Westerns in Ouray are sold out Friday and Saturday, so that leaves local establishments, most of which are $120/night or more (or lots more, depending).  Anybody have reservations (with two beds) they want to split?  Anybody camping?  If so, where?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Kewl.  I called them (rather than relying on their website) and they did, indeed, have a room for me!  I'm booked for the evenings of the 7th and 8th, so let's go for a ride!

BTW, completely off subject, but I just called Moto-Authority and Steve is mounting me up a spanky new 2CT in 180/55 for less than $150.  Can't beat that!

Punx, you still in for a room Friday and Saturday nights?  If not, is anybody else up?

Cool.  Well, Dusty and I are communicating via pm and if she, KB, and I go in on a room, we were contemplating keeping the other one until the cut-off for a refund in case someone does need one.  It will be musical beds until the last moment probably, but at least we will have some options.

Well, it sure won't be the same without you.  There's nothing easier than rooming with your own kid.  Actually, the first year was pretty cool with Dusty and DucMouse.  It was just an extension of posse time.  This year I'll have to bring breathe right strips and wear deoderant.  Maybe I should just plan on sucking it up and staying solo.  I don't want to be the butt of next year's jokes, right, DucMouse?

Well, I already have a SPH emoticon, provided by KB many months ago when the moniker was adopted by (or assigned to) me.  Check the botttom of my post.  However, what I really wanted is one licking my chops.

I just want to say this in DucMouse's defense.  I roomed with her the year before and snoring and farting don't surface at all in my memory of that weekend.  We even slept in the same bed so I think I would have noticed it since I was stone-sober.  Perhaps it was because she was beyond passed out.  That was the night she christened the Irish bar's doorsill.  Or maybe I was snoring loud enough to drown her out.   ???

P.S.  I think it is MOST ungentlemanly of you to mention a lady's snoring and farting habits on a public forum.  Do you kiss and tell, also?   You just blacklisted yourself from the SPH line-up.   [laugh]

I will have one half of my room available in the Best Western. If anyone is interested or in need of accomodation. I need to split the cost with someone. I know Bonfy has posted she has room too before me so she gets first consideration. And gee, who wouldn't want to be in a room with a SPH. That's adventure!

P.S.  I think it is MOST ungentlemanly of you to mention a lady's snoring and farting habits on a public forum.  Do you kiss and tell, also?   You just blacklisted yourself from the SPH line-up.   [laugh]

lady?  who was talkin about a lady? [cheeky]

You guys have no idea.  I dont know how THP deals with it.  She roomed with me last year and between the snoring and the farting ALL night, I almost died.

RRRRiiiigggghhhhhhht and ur all inncocent and dont fart and snore or burp  [cheeky]

[laugh]

ya what she said [thumbsup]

thx Bonfy! if we were snoring that loud then i bet would have woke up...ooooooorrrrrr she was just aloud and we all were on an equal level of snoring  [laugh]

Ok ok I can't stay silent any longer!!!  I was in the other bed in the room with SPH and DucMouse year before last.  I had some to drink, but not that much (I was hanging mostly with the non-drinking SPH).  I do remember Mousey stumbling in late at night and into the shower before she crawled into bed with Bonfy.  There were some logs that were sawed but not enough to keep me from several hours of slumber and I really don't remember any flatulence (at least not those nights, we won't talk about Mousey's visit to KB's and my place).  :)  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!  I'd share a room again with either one of them in a heartbeat.

And I have to agree with DucMouse on the polka dots.  Sorry, DDGM.  But lest we forget...

I will have one half of my room available in the Best Western. If anyone is interested or in need of accomodation. I need to split the cost with someone. I know Bonfy has posted she has room too before me so she gets first consideration. And gee, who wouldn't want to be in a room with a SPH. That's adventure!

  8)

Thanks Red!  Actually, anyone who needs a room should just go with whatever situation feels easiest and keeps them out of trouble.  So don't worry about cutting in on my action.  I still need to check to see what the cut-off date is to cancel the room with full refund.  As the time gets closer, we'll see if more  or less rooms are needed.

Update:

7 rooms are still available at the discounted rate that Bick was able to negotiate.  They will be released in the morning.

We will have private access to the Tiki bar from 4-6pm on Friday for a reception at the Best Western.

We will also be having a BBQ at the Best Western on Saturday evening for about $15-20 per person.

If you have not made note in the General Monster Forum Thread about your attendance, please do so here:::> http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=19515.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=19515.0)

See you guys in a little under two weeks.

Yeah, I'm planning on it.  6:30 is pretty early though!  I'll definitely be bringing up the rear as I 'should' keep it under 7K rpm - I don't want to slow you guys down too much!  Don't know how much you believe in what the manuals say about breaking it in but I need to reach 1500 miles (only have 850 now).

Hope to see you Friday...Or is that Thursday night  ???

so are ya'll heading up 550??? i think it would be a nicer ride to head through chama and pagosa and across, it only adds like 30 miles and there's a few twisties [moto] instead of the straight and boring

Actually I'm looking for a route that takes me up to Ouray that is not 550. I may have to take my old RV (not fuel injected) up to DiTR cuz it's the only thing I got to pull my bike with. I'm thinking that if I take a lower route I won't vapor lock. Not that I've ever had a problem,  I'd hate to get sidelined here 3 days before I leave fornot having a vehicle that will cruise up and over the passes.

After very careful consideration (of the fact that Friday is my 17th wedding anniversary), and considering that my wife, Ashley, has hinted very heavily that there are certain things WE should do this weekend (or I might not survive to see Monday), I have decided that it is probably best that I miss Ouray.

Sorry to back out on you so late, Larry, but I'll call this morning and cancel my room, so you can call and pick it up and you'll be able to take the girlfriend with you!

I may still try to drive up Saturday afternoon to ride Sunday with the group if anyone is riding Sunday.  Is anyone riding Sunday, or is everyone just riding home?

What would be more appropriate for an anniversary than to have Rev. Ducducgooseme renew your vows in the most beautiful spot on the planet?

We will be riding on Sunday! SUNDAY!!! SUNDAY!!!

All I know is Larry, so I'll tell you what.  PM me a last name and a phone number where the hotel staff can reach you and I'll have them call you and get your credit card info so that they can remove mine.  I'm about to get on an airplane, but I'll be back Wednesday and we'll take care of it then.

Hit durango, then go over to mancos, up that side of the san juan skyway (dolores, telluride, ridgeway).  It's a little lower, but your next best bet it going all the way up to dove creek, up to naturita, then to ridgeway.  Even going straight north and trying to hit gunnison is as bad as taking 550.

We'll try to clean it up this year.

See ya' @ ish o'clock HP.    We'll update along the way.

You all know I'm a big fan of Serious Texas BBQ.  It's convenient for you guys, too.  There's also a decent little pizza joint in the same area (near the Harley shop right off of 550.)  Do either of those strike your fancy?  If not, let me know what you're all in the mood for and I'll hook you up.

Hello all! We are nice and comfy at my house near Abiquiu now  ;D

Damn it felt good to get in last night after the long drive!

So it looks like Swampduc and I will be riding up with you guys tomorrow morning and poor El Matador will be stuck with the truck  [evil]

My suggestion for breakfast, if you guys still want to eat with us, would be a little New Mex place just north of Espanola called Socorro's. There we can get some killer Bfast burritos and likely get our picture taken and placed on the wall.

Just let me know when you guys should be arriving tomorrow in Espanola and I'll give you directions to the breakfast place so we can meet there. I would offer to make breakfast at my house but I seriously don't want anyone's bike to endure the hellish dirt road that I'm on!

But, we are cool for meeting in Abiquiu if you goys dont want to come our way, just to head back  the same way again.

OOPS, mouse beat me to the punch.  we will be through Espanola about 8:45.  Let us know where to be.  I will let the Becks know so we dont have to stop to pick them up before.

Serious Texas BBQ is always good, and parking is decent (though you can't see the bikes while inside.)  The outside patio looks over the Animas River, too.

Beau Joe's Pizza has good parking, and you look directly out on the parking area.  They have a small patio out front.

The two are about 1/8 mile apart.  Both are on the East side of 550 before you get into down town Durango. Serious Texas BBQ is right after the Harley store.  You turn at the Durango Mall entrance, hang an immediate left on to the frontage road, pass the H-D dealer then turn into Serious Texas. If you want the pizza place, stay on the frontage road about 1/8 of a mile.  Don't worry if you miss the Mall entrance, you can turn a little farther down the road and hook back toward the H-D store.

Shoot, you guys know I like food....

Looks like everyone made it back safe! It was great hanging out with everyone and awesome riding. Only wish I'd had another chance to tackle that 550 mountain descent with fully functioning clutch! We are very much so looking forward to next year and making it a week long stay nexy time.

Thanks to everyone for a great time and for our nice "farthest traveled" award. We'll treasure the t-shirts and hang them on the wall for sure.

Punx, glad to see you're doing okay. Sounds like you got pretty lucky picking a good spot to get off, so the riding gods must be out there keeping an eye on you! Post up some pics of the bike, keep us updated and don't hesitate to ask for anything!

hunkypunk, nice pics - that canyon road sure was a beauty. I think I was dreaming about it last night.

Anyone that has experianced that treat will know what 'IT'S'  all about, the sharp end of the learning curve, Well You did'nt meet The Sausage Creature, and thats what proper attire is all about. Just learn from Your experiance and ride on!!  Let's work on getting Your bike up getting back in the saddle.. Gracefully.. Thank Our Lord it wasn't worse... [bow_down]

Got back from my first ride to DiTR and various other points in Colorado a couple of hours ago.  I will definitely have to adjust my schedule for next year.  I had an awsome ride in but missed the group ride on Saturday.  Must do that next year.  When I left I went out by Punx's Point.  All I can say is  :o  Hope all had a safe ride back.

Kawboy, lets see those pictures of the... site.  I need somethin to remember what happened, and I don't know if I can handle another knock on the head.

Hell, I just got about 5 seconds of memory from cedaredge cause my dad reminded me that my great great uncle was buried there (reminded me that I called my dad in cedaredge).  Pictures at the site may make me remember hanging on  [moto].

Ed, red 1198 with the radar alarm and blue mesh jacket, said I hung on for freakin ever fightin to keep the bike up.

Are you guys worn out yet?  Just take these in small doses.  Anyone else got any?  Just jump right in!  Randimus wants them posted on the main board, too, so I'll be copying and pasting all night long.

The next day, I rode with MytyDuc (Pete) and Charlie:

To Telluride we went - MytyDuc and Bonfy:

This is the only good shot of me so I am gratutiously posting it because I CAN:

Got back to town and watched the rest of the riders come in - Kingbaby, Dusty, DesmLu, El Matador, and Godec:

Love the leathers:

Now there's a happy threesome:

There's Mojo with her groove on:

shakin' the bush, boss, shakin' the bush!

I thought I was just going to set it to public viewing.  I have a bunch more to get off my camera that are sort of redundant, but someone may want to snag them and edit them for their own enjoyment.  So the answer is, nope, I haven't completed the transfer.  facebook has quite a few  on there that aren't taking up space in my photobucket account.

I know this will probably come back to bite me in the ass, but I never leave the door very wide open for stalkers.  When I'm done with them, they're usually beatin' cheeks in the opposite direction.  As far as viruses, haven't had any problem with facebook.  Yahoo is another story.  I only accept people that I know as friends so I don't have 750 people cluttering up my board.  And if their politics don't agree with mine, they are cut with no apologies.  Yup, that's the kind of gal I am.  I am not putting anymore pictures in photobucket of DiTR 2009 because I am getting close to the limit as it is.  Like I said the ones on facebook are just more of the same so if you weren't there you probably wouldn't care anyway.  If you were there, you should have taken your own.   ;D  Feel free to snag any you like right off this forum, it happens all the time.

wow

I'd like to thank everyone involved for everything they did.  I can't remember much after lunch, but none the less.

I have a folded up map that was left on the bike once it was hauled up the hill telling no one to mess with the bike.  It will be framed with large copies of all these pictures.

Special thanks to Ed for filling me in on what happened, and Kawboy for the first pictures I saw of the turn.  You guys are great.

Beautiful shots, Punx.  Your bike doesn't look half as bad as I imagined it would.  Can't wait to see how the work you have planned for the tank turns out!

[laugh]

I'm with you guys on that one for sure.  It took me about 4 weeks on myspace to know it wasn't for me. If I want someone to know something about me I'll give em' a call our send an email.  Now, twitter  ???   " I am walking down the hall, now turning left, taking a glass out of the cabinet, filling it with water"   WTF?    >:(

You hit this one on the head! I wish my daughter would stop the communication addiction too. She told me that she did something really different the other day. She's learning how to actually talk to people using real words. She said, "it's really hard too, I do better on the computer".   [roll] [roll]

Kingbaby, I dont know what made me laugh more, the fact that they let the likes of the High Desert Hooligans dine on white table cloths, or THP in his SuperSperm suit.

I'll give dusty all the credit for the fancy lunch, she walked in with a Blk/Red garter belt on, and BAM, waiters galore.   [bacon]  [wine]

THP rode all the way to Bernalillo in that damn suit.  [laugh]
