Title: Headlight with Fairing Options (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 15, 2009, 11:22:23 AM Hey folks ;D
One of the mods I have been mulling over for quite some time was the Hesa "Fire" headlight. I liked the look of it on CDawg's bike but his doesn't have a fairing. I want to keep my fairing but am not sure how it will look or fit. I've done a photochop (okay it's not the best so maybe that's why I'm shying away from this light lately). Let me hear people's suggestions/ideas. If there is anybody out there that has done this headlight mod with a fairing a picture would be greatly appreciated. (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/Photochop_with_light.jpg) Kind of reminds me of the headlight/fairing mod that Grubby did to his bike and I really liked. Maybe if I darken the headlight in the photochop it would look better. ??? Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: minnesotamonster on January 15, 2009, 11:48:52 AM Initially, I didn't like it. But after your suggestion on making the black match the rest of the bike...I think it would look really good. My $.02

Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: MonsterMan1036 on January 15, 2009, 12:22:24 PM I would black out the front end (forks & triples) before I would do that head light. [puke] There is too much extra plastic on that light.

Post by: Mojo S2R on January 15, 2009, 04:09:27 PM is the scale off a bit or does it really hang that low. what is the travel of the front fork? will it hit? I think the scale may be off. Let me see if I can find that pic of CDawg's bike. I would black out the front end (forks & triples) before I would do that head light. [puke] There is too much extra plastic on that light. This is actually an old pic of my bike but the only one with the right angle to match the pic of the light. I've wrapped the forks since then (plan on powdercoating the the triple and maybe the forks black at a later date) Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 15, 2009, 04:40:56 PM Found a pic of CDawg's bike here: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=7364.0
(http://lh6.ggpht.com/clifton.yen/SEW_z47FXpI/AAAAAAAAAMc/-fUKHbfSFbw/s400/DSC03204.JPG) Looks like the size on my photochop is off and I would have to mount the headlight differently as it looks like there wouldn't be space for the fairing using the OEM headlight mount. Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: DucHead on January 15, 2009, 04:56:51 PM I like the light, and I love the fairing, but they don't go together. That fairing screams "round headlight," and the new light screams "no fairing!" :) [drink]
Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: CDawg on January 15, 2009, 07:01:34 PM Mojo S2R,
I cannnot see your photoshop, but let me add 2cents...the bikini faring on where it intercepts the OEM headlight is not a semi-circle...it is kind of like a "M" with two peaks and a valley...you're going to want to mod the fairing to make it work better. Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 15, 2009, 07:18:40 PM CDawg,
Here's some head-on pictures of the fairing: (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2221/MOJOS2R_05.jpg) (http://www.hoosierhooligans.org/gallery/albums/userpics/normal_030108_09221.jpg) If for some reason you can't see these images either I have galleries here: At TOB: http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=2221 and on the HooHoo Forum: http://www.hoosierhooligans.org/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=112 My fairing actually has a semicircle opening. I'm thinking the only mod I may have to make is to the mounting point. Maybe move down the mounting brackets the same way others have done when lowering the headlight/gauges/et-al. BTW - could you possibly post a head-on pic so that I can use for photochopping and reference purposes? Thanks. Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Below are images of: my bike with current original headlight photochop of same with Hesa light photochop with Hesa light and lowered light/fairing photochop with original light and lowered light/fairing (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/1-Original_Light.jpg) (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/2-Hesa_Light_photochop.jpg) (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/3-Hesa_Light_and_lower_photochop.jpg) (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/4-Original_Light_and_lower_photochop.jpg) If anybody has this light installed, please post a head-on view so I can verify mounting point. Thanks. Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: CDawg on January 21, 2009, 04:50:22 PM Mojo S2R,

Post by: Mojo S2R on January 21, 2009, 05:17:19 PM Thanks 11tyb CDawg. Although my fairing doesn't have that dip in the middle like the OEM I think there's still a lot of open space on the sides. I think I'm going to have to mod or fabricate something to make the fairing and lights blend into each other smoothly. For the time being I can do head-on photochop. Thanks.
Just noticed - almost looks like the same light on bike in the back - just turned sideways. BMW? Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: DucHead on January 21, 2009, 07:02:44 PM Yeah, that's a BMW.
Check out c_rex's bike. He has an aftermarket light that is cool, and he fabbed up a "fairing" that IMO blends the bike and headlight very well (third post down on page 3 of this thread: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=17801.30) Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 23, 2009, 09:55:56 AM I think that's the one on his only with a modded screen. I think it looks better from the side than from the front though.
Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 26, 2009, 06:03:25 PM Thanks to CDawg for the headon shots. So here are some new photochops.
The first two may need mods to the fairing. They show my bike: With the Hesa Light as CDawg has it mounted Same mounting point with the light/fairing lowered. Lowered Hesa light and fairing with an adapter to lower the light a little more Lowered fairing with OEM light (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/medium/01-Headon_Photochop.jpg) (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/medium/02-Headon_Photochop.jpg) (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/medium/03-Headon_Photochop.jpg) (http://www.ducatimonster.org/gallery/data/2222/medium/04-Headon_Photochop.jpg) Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: flanman on January 27, 2009, 08:33:33 AM For me I think the circular opening of the fairing is throwing it off. I don't think it would look bad at all but the round headlight/curve piece leaves for a lot of space making it appear to not go together (IMO). If I had photoshop I would play around with adding/cutting the fairing to make it more complimentary to the shape of the headlight (my free trial of PS expired ;D )
Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 27, 2009, 11:30:07 AM Yeah. I thought the same. I still prefer the Hesa light but want to keep the fairing. If I can't find another light with more of an upside down teardrop shape with a bigger light on top and I do go with the Hesa Fire I will have to make something to make the fairing and headlight flow more smoothly together. Maybe something in fiberglass to blend them together and fill in the open space.

Mojo S2R, Thanks for the PM. You know, you can make it look a lot better (the gap may even work for you) by simply painting the Hesa headlight casing to match the fairing. Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on January 28, 2009, 03:35:31 PM I really like the look of the Hesa Fire Headlight, but am now going to put this on the backburner as I have already pulled the trigger on a few other mods. Some actually to improve performance and not just bling/aesthetics. Unless something different comes along that I like more, this will stay on my future mods list - unless I get some extra money from uncle IRS. ;D
Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: causeofkaos on January 29, 2009, 12:28:26 PM if someone could clarify somethings on this HESA headlight ( which causes some stiffness in my pants )
1 that is a headlight with high beam right - no details on the website 2 it should take some, hopefully little mechanical know how to make it work 3 how wicked would it look on the PWhite 696 ps i hope all of your answers are yes because there is very little keeping from doing this mod. Post by: Triple J on January 29, 2009, 02:18:41 PM ok im a tard found different website answering question one help me with 2 and 3 I have one on order for my MTS project, so I haven't seen it yet, but basically I was told it will plug into some dc harnesses, while others require 3 (I think) wires to be spliced. Either way, pretty easy. Title: Re: Hesa "Fire" Black Headlight with Fairing (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: flanman on January 29, 2009, 02:52:00 PM Is the stock wiring fairly straight forward? I have never really looked into it but have always toyed with the idea of putting on another headlight...

I have never really looked into it but have always toyed with the idea of putting on another headlight... If I can do it, just about anyone can do it. The wiring is very straight forward. It was close to plug and play, but I over-thought it..I messed up and it was not biggie and rewired it. On #3 you can photoshop it. I'm biased and like the Hesa, but if had more time am thinking about building a custom headlight with 3 bulbs. Title: Re: Headlight with Fairing Options (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on February 01, 2009, 01:57:35 PM I thought that since I am looking at possible other options I would change the title of the thread and we could post different options for headlights with fairings.
So here is what the Hesa Fire headlight would look like if I would be able to get someone to modify my fairing to close off the open space as seen earlier in the thread: (http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv270/drkmojo/05-HeadonPhotochop.jpg?t=1233523831) Another light I thought about recently was the headlight on the new version monster: (http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv270/drkmojo/06-HeadonPhotochop.jpg?t=1233523831) (http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv270/drkmojo/07-HeadonPhotochop.jpg?t=1233523831) Title: Re: Headlight with Fairing Options (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Title: Re: Headlight with Fairing Options (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on February 10, 2009, 12:12:10 PM I've started looking at OEM headlights on other bikes and found the following two which I believe will work very nicely with my fairing.

[thumbsup] A little pricey though. I would like to find a headon shot of it to play/photochop with before I decide on throwing down that much money on a light.
Title: Re: Headlight with Fairing Options (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: MonsterMan1036 on February 10, 2009, 01:16:43 PM Spiegler is local to me, I need to go and pick up some parts from them. If head over there soon I'll try and get you a pic. [thumbsup]

Post by: Mojo S2R on February 17, 2009, 12:18:39 PM I saw the JWS Headlight on one of the MotoWheels Custom bikes and was wondering what it would look like with a fairing.
It's round with dual stacked bulbs but larger than the OEM headlight. I think it may look better if I cut a bit off the bottom of my fairing or go with the smaller OEM fairing. (http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv270/drkmojo/11-HeadonPhotochop.jpg?t=1234901481) They have a halogen and HID model, though the HID model is kind of pricey. Post by: Raux on February 17, 2009, 12:52:54 PM the 696 light is much much thinner than the old style. you have to look at it from the side to see what i mean. not sure how it would work for you.
Title: Re: Headlight with Fairing Options (suggestions, ideas, pics?) Post by: Mojo S2R on February 17, 2009, 07:49:03 PM You can see it here mounted on an S4Rs and I think it works alright. Only thing being that for me I would black out the silver on the bottom of the light and my fairing goes down the side to cover just below the light mount.

Had to remove the windsheild fairing and handguards as they would not mount with the current setup. I will have to get some brackets made to reinstall them. Here are some pics of what the MT-01 headlight looks like on a nekid setup.
