NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned a plane has crashed into the Hudson River.
The plane is a US Airways flight 1549 from LaGuardia to Charlotte. There were 146 passengers on board the flight, along with 5 crew members. There is no report on their conditions.
The plane went down near 57th street. The plane took off from LaGuardia at 3:11 p.m.
Ferry's are rescuing passengers, some who are seen standing on the wings of the plane.
Sounds like those friggin' squirrels are starting to recruit some of their winged brethren, and getting bolder...
dark times upon us...
Everyone has made it out, FYI....
A flock of Canadian geese are to blame. I say blame Canada!
Sounds like everyone got out okay. [thumbsup] Good pilots. [beer]
from initial reports it doesn't sound like there are any fatalities. I hope that holds up.
Im going to do my part and take out some Canadian Geese this weekend! F-ers!
Good to hear everyone got out..

[beer] to the pilots and that everyone gets to go home. [thumbsup] This could have easily ended up like that D.C./Potomac crash.
Some colleagues of mine at the bank were on that plane. Thank goodness everybody is ok. Big props to the pilot.
That article was horribly written and repeated information two, sometimes even three times. [roll]
Good to hear everyone made it out alright though.
No dude, it landed 56 minutes ago:

Good pilots. [beer]
+1 - amazingly good _and_ amazingly lucky...
big (I always used to chuckle through the "in the event of a water landing" bit...)
Well done to the pilots [thumbsup]
I wonder what they're gonna do with the plane/fuel now. ???

They can just tow it around to the Newtown Creek and let it dissolve.
Supposedly it was towed to a pier for investigation & salvage ~
JM
They may be able to reuse the fuselage. I wonder if it gets a salvage title?
I enjoyed our local news teaser for this story last night: Miracle on Hudson.
Stupid pilots shoulda known to crash the damn thing into 34th Street. Honestly... no sense of drama.

Delta In My BackYard? :P
It is a miracle story.
I am surprised, it happening in NY, that videos haven't surfaced yet. I would think someone with a camera saw it.

That would be like having a winning lottery ticket! Beck should mount a 24 hour camera in his loft overlooking the rivah!

Not really. The bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis had video. 911 planes were recorded. There are some still photos of this plane going down, but no video that I have seen yet.

You dont think the owners of said videos made some $$?

This is amazing -- I couldn't breathe for the last minute or two...

I knew the landing and the entire situation was amazing but this definitely puts you there. Good on Cpt Sully.
That's a cool vid. Explains it as only seeing a thing happen can. [thumbsup]
That is one hell of a kick ass pilot right there

Yup. It's amazing to listen to his voice and what he's choosing to focus on as the situation goes downhill -- once it's no longer an option to divert to another airport, he stops talking to the tower and works with his first officer on putting the plane in the water.
And I stifled a nervous laugh when the subtitles that showed the in-cabin audio, seconds before impact, showed him asking his first officer "Any ideas?" and the reply "Actually, no."

The pilot's first job is always "just fly the airplane" especially in an emergency. Pilot first, radio operator second. Awesome job by this guy and FO Skiles.
