Title: 600 Monster won't turn over at all - intermitent problem
Post by: phil.cal on January 16, 2009, 07:03:36 PM
2000 Monster6000, always serviced, only 25000kms. Won't start sometimes unless switched on & off 1 or 35 times. Service has checked the key & kill switch - has replaced solenoid, started for them many times, I rode it home & tried a restart - no joy until switch on/off kill on/off many times. Runs perfectly once it starts.
All ideas appreciated - Phil

Just had the same issue on my M750, 2002. I cannot said that you have the same issue but it cost nothing to test. After chasing electrical problem, relay, kill switch, battery...I found that the problem came from a corroded terminal located on the ground side and connected to the ECU body. This is a short piece of wire that run from the ground of the battery to the ECU's body [drink]. I replaced the terminal, cleaned the spot where it sit on the ECU and the problem was fixed.

phil.cal's bike is a carbie, no ECU.

Your problem could be the main relay or the safety relay, both under the seat by the flasher or the side stand switch itself.  If you go here    http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/service/manuals/2000.jhtml?family=manuals    and go to page 94 there is a wiring diagram.  The legend is on page 66.
