Title: Programming new keys
Post by: Gearhead211 on January 16, 2009, 08:39:00 PM
Anybody out there know the correct procedure for programming new black keys.  I have my red key but I lost my black key so I ordered a new key blank from ducati and had it cut to match my other key.  But I can't seem to to get into programing mode on the ECU.  I can start the motor with the red key but it won't recognize the black key.  I went through the programming procedure three times from my Haynes manual but it just doesn't work Any ideas?

???Afraid that doesn't help me much since I lost my only original black key.  All I have is my new and as yet unprogrammed black key and my red key.

The link provides the instructions.  You'll need another un-programmed black key - from my experience I couldn't get the procedure to work with only one black key.  It can be any two black keys that are cut to fit your lock.

p.s. with the correct blank and a locksmith with the right equipment, you can also get your red key cloned - I've done it :)

you do need to program 2 black keys but I believe you can just program the same one twice to "trick" the ECU, though its definitely best to have 2 black keys
