Title: fork tubes monster vs ss
Post by: fulltilt on January 17, 2009, 02:42:32 PM
Can anybody tell me if those pretty, shiny lowers on the Showa forks are the same in early ss (91 - 97) and similarly aged monsters?

thank you 8)

A years SS use longer forks to the best of my knowledge.

the non adj showa forks fitted to the early 900M are the same part numbers as those fitted to the earlier 750SS.  the adj showas fitted to the 900 special i think are the same as the 900SS adj.  as for the tubes themselves i don't know.

Yes they will fit as long as you pick the same model/type

make sure they are both showa
make sure they are both of the same type adjustable vs non-adjustable

I have changed a few of these so it can be done.

Pitty,  I picked up some Monster forks (non adjustable) hoping to use just the lower sliders on an adjustable fork from a '92 SS.  I thought only the internals would be different.  But alas, from your wise guidance, I gather that my plans are thwarted.

Oh well, at least the wisdom of the group has saved me from becoming disappointed AND oily.

Thanks to all

If you own them why not give it a shot I am pretty sure there is a length difference but you may still be able to pull off a mix and match.
take measurements and make sure you do not change your travel or bottom parts (top cap to inner tube).
